Canon Rebel Techniques Needed

I own a Canon rebel XT, stock 18-55 zoom lens, and a Sigma 100-300 APO macro lens.

Anybody have some pointers as to camera settings that work for them and similar equipment?

I wish to mainly do close-ups and macro work. I have looked through the forum first.

Thanks in advance.

It all depends on what you are wanting to shoot. Shooting corals or fish require different settings. Corals don't move (well, for the most part) so I find it's best to shoot in aperture priority (Av), set the F/stop to whatever you want (I generally use between 8-16), ISO 100, and use a tripod and shutter release since the shutter speed will be fairly slow. Mirror lock-up also helps for this. As for shooting fish without a tripod, I use shutter priority (Tv), ISO 800, with a speed of 1/80 through 1/160 depending on the fish. Trial and error is really the best technique though as everyone finds something different that works for them.

For coral macro shots, definately use a tripod and turn your pumps off. I too like AV mode around f10 give or take. I seem to get better color and contrast with the longer exposures. And definately use mirror lockup.

Thanks for the pointers guys :)

I will try again in the morning.
Anybody else have any suggestions?
