Canon SD 850IS Noob Help

I could sure use some tips and/or help with taking pictures with my Canon SD 850IS.

The macro shots look ok until I zoom (digital zoom) in more than maybe 1.6x.

Anyone else using this camera with good success? Are there zoom lenses that I can buy? I don't have a tripod yet, but I'm sure this will be a good addition.
