Canopy fan suggestions..?

how did you come to the conclusion of using scythe from that thread? I didn't even see scythe mentioned.

If you look at the 11th post, the one by sjm817 you will see what I saw.

I stand corrected. Thanks.

I'm thinking of using four of these. Only because the canopy already has four holes. Would this be on the louder side.

Being that I want to blow all four fans in, should I look for lower db and eat the lower cfm?

I think that would have to be a call you have to make. Some noise to me might be nothing to you and the other way around.
24dBA is pretty quiet.

My fans came in. I hope to get a DC adaptor soon. HOw do I wire it? Does anyone have a diagram? These have three prongs at the end of the fan wire.

if it's a 3-pin molex (which most are) one is hot, one is ground & the 3rd (yellow i think) is for temp sensor/speed control i think

i ended up just buying a power supply w/ molex end plug designed specifically for running pcs fans etc.....

here are a few more links for the same thing:

it you already have a power supply for a laptop or printer, etc that has a 2.5mm internal/5.5mm external barrel end, then here is the parts list i got from digi-key to make your own adapters:

molex part#1 http://search.digikey.com/scripts/dksearch/dksus.dll?Detail?name=A1421-ND

molex part#2 http://search.digikey.com/scripts/dksearch/dksus.dll?Detail?name=A1431-ND

female barrel plug http://search.digikey.com/scripts/DkSearch/dksus.dll?Detail?name=CP-024B-ND

extension cord (if needed) http://search.digikey.com/scripts/DkSearch/dksus.dll?Detail?name=CP-2212-ND

THanks for the info. I'm not sure which I need with this. THe end looks different fromt he ones in the pic.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/ShowI...scription=SilenX IXP-54-14B Blue LED Case Fan

can't remember what the plug that link has is called, but this one is what mine have & it's a 4-pin molex & the type that the adapters i posted will fit.....

northwest FL huh.....real good friend of mine lives in ft walton beach :D

The single plugs into the 4-pin? I didn't see that coming. Honestly, I'm still confused. The 4 part of this looks like four mini compartments with hollow brass tubes in them. I can't believe that I am wishing I was wiring lights!

Is your friend in the local club? If so, I probably know him/her.

no the digi-key links i posted on the 1st page are the parts to make the adapter to make the barrel plug on the left plug(from the laptop power supply) plug into the 4-pin on the right in that pic....or you could buy the laptop power supply that has the molex plug on the end to plug into the fan that i posted the link to as well

....& no she isn't in any reef clubs

i think you need to post a pic of your fan & the end it has......

looks like it comes w/ the adapter to adapt the plug on the fan to a 4-pin molex like i showed earlier, you will just need the power supply i posted that has the 4-pin molex end

power supply:
http://www.jab-tech.com/12v-DC-Power-Supply-with-Single-Molex-Connector-pr-3776.html

if you are using more than 1 fan you will need one of these also:
http://www.jab-tech.com/4-Pin-molex-Y-adapter-pr-1592.html

it is a molex y-adapter....1 molex that plugs into the power supply & it has 2 molex out....

you would plug each of those molex plugs into the molex plug shown in this pic:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ShowI...scription=SilenX IXP-54-14B Blue LED Case Fan

then that cable's 3-pin end would plug into the plug on the fan seen in this pic:

I'm using two of these blowing in, powered by an old wall wart @ 12V. Seems like plenty of air (actually one was enough) for 2 x 250W MH, and 2 x 96W PCs. You can here them but it's not too obtrusive, and if I put them on a speed controller or variable power supply I'm sure they could be dead silent.

As for light traps, I used plastic heat register directors. They come clear but a little black paint and no more light. I placed one over each opening in the back of my hood including the fans. Sorry, no pics I cant get to them without removing the canopy. This kind of deflector though... http://www.improvementscatalog.com/product/air-deflector/ViewLarger.do
