Can't get crystal clear water

I know exactly what you're talking about. I had the same problem on my prior tank and could not for the life of me get my water clear...until I used a UV sterilizer. Try out a UV before you dump money into a diatom filter (I tired one of those, didn't work), etc.

Have you thought about trying ozone? It won't help with particulate matter but might help boost your skimmer output by breaking down organics.

X2... Get one with less than 50 mg/hr, and you won't have the issues with using ozone or cost.

I use THIS one plumbed into my skimmer nozzle, and on a timer to run at 1 hour on/off intervals during the night, 11pm - 6 am.

You will be surprised how little you can get away with using with the water clearing up.

I also us a uv sterilizer. That is another story......
