okay, so i go to seattle come back after a week and find cyano..

figuring lesson learned.. wanted to water change my way out of it and hook the phosban reactor up to clear out what N04 was left and cut feeding. ended up dosing chemi-clean to speed this process since i was going to wichita in less then a week.

i just got back from Wichita, guess what more cyano.. ??? ***

I didnt have the tank sitter feed at all! as i suspected over feeding to have been the cause of my last outbreak.

the bulbs are 1 week old.
top off water test's 0 for phosphate...
tons of flow in the tank.
phosban reactor only 2 weeks old.
9 hour photoperiod

phos test's at .25
alk/kh 10
cal 450
ph 8.2
mag 1400 ish - didnt get a great reading
oxy 3
amn 0
sg 1.025
temp 80-83 depending on time of day

i'm dumbfounded... this tank hasnt been fed in 8 days. and is running a phosban reactor... top off test at 0 phos... wft??

no macro in the tank, nothing died off.. all known livestock accounted for.

test's are all month old salfert test kits.

did a 20% WC last night because it was due anyway. corals all look great!

I had cyano and the only thing that I did was to run a phos. pad in a magnum 350 filter.I found that flow did nothing for as it grew on the output of the power heads.I was told that phos. test are not very accurate as phos. resides in the sand not the water column, give the reactor time or add a phos. pad and see if it clears up on its own as it uses the nutrients out of the sand it should start to die off.

.25 is def. high enough phosphates which would feed the cyano. That just takes months of running the phosban while keeping the feeding down/flow strong. It may take a few monthly phosban changes to get down to 0 (which isn't really 0 it's just 0 for the detectable form). It is probably even higher than .25 and the cyano is sucking it up. After you get to 0 then you should be able to get 2-3 months per phosban refill after that.

so you think the phosban needs changed after only 2 weeks? I up'd the flow in the reactor a bit as I had it running with a very very gentile roll at the top of the reactor, now its still at a roll but the grain's kick up about 1/2" from the mass of media. still fairly gentile
