Caplin started rolling here today(annual event). Wish I was computer savy but not.Take a look at ntv. ca or cbc.com(look at region-newfoundland-labrador) and you may view vid.and take a look. Just thought alot of people here would be interested in this. Will try to get video up. Thanks

Looks similar to what we call a Jubilee arond here, except one is done for reproduction, the other is done out of a lack of oxygen..

I'm from Newfoundland. Our cat would go missing every year at this time for about a week. He always came come twice the size he left.

Mega! Where are you from? I lived just up from Topsail beach in Conception Bay South.

My brother lived in Bay Bulls and would get ticked during Iceburg and Whale season. The whales would blow kelp and fish all over his clothes line and the tourists would trample his yard for the iceburgs. Gotta love tourists!

I'm going home July 20th! Haven't been in 3 years!

Guess who gets to stay home and take care of the dog and all of the fish!

Newfoundland is definitely a cool place tho. It's pretty and has lots of history and my in-laws (whom I dearly love) are all there. Where else can you go and touch the 10,000 year old "bergie bits" (pieces of icebergs) that wash up on the beach in the summer?

Hello seahorse. Living in Town. My wife is from ST.Phillips and we were there tonight and the caplin started rolling around 9. A lot of people filling up their buckets and I just took home enough for a few meals. We went to Topsail Beach oddly enough tonight before heading to St.Phillips, a few fires on the go and people were getting caplin far up on the left. Whales will certainly be around for awhile now. Going to go to St.Phillips Friday or Saturday evening for a fire if the weather is good. Maybe catch a cod...lol.

As for delicacy, one either likes them or not I guess. On the news tonight someone had come from South Africa just to see the caplin!!!!

Ya, I wouldn't call it a delicacy because they are just basically smelt of sorts. It's just interesting to see them roll in. Some peeps gather them for fertilizer if nothing else.

I know St Phillips well, we probably know a couple of the same people.
