Jeremy,
Long story short...I had a LOT of Carbon and 2 parts of ROWAPHOS in the micron collection bag that drains into my sump. Somehow a heater in the sump got loose and came in contact witht he bag, burning a hole into it and releasing the carbon and rowophos into the sump. This all happened while I was out of town for a week. When I returned (yesterday), two acros and a fish were dead. All other fish/corals/inverts were/seem ok.
The tank is a 180g with a 30g sump. I did a 60g water change and had to shop-vac the black soot-slime from out of the sump. It was everywhere, covering everything in the sump and piled up 1" on the floor of the sump. However the main display looked ok aside from a cyano outbreak and the three casualties mentioned above.
The carbon was three weeks old and the rowaphos was 5 weeks old. I'm assuming that all the bad nutrients/bacteria was re-released into the system and was toxic to some extent.
Thus far, I bumped my ozone up to 400 and have plenty of new saltwater on-hand. Should I do another larger water change soon or several small ones daily? Also, what could the long-term repercussions of this accident be and what can I do to combat them?
Also, can you order me another micron collection bag for the eshopps sump? You remember the sump we setup right? It is the 36x14x16 model I believe. Also, I need more tm pro reef salt. do u have any in stock? If so can I stop by and pick some up. Plus I'd love to see the new spot...
Thanks greatly!
Paul
