Carbon dosers: Do you also dose bacteria?

I have seen a lot of people who use ZeoBak without running full Zeo or using a different carbon source than ZeoStart3.

Don't know their success rate but it seems to be fairly common.

I just looked up that ratio interesting ...I'm at higher nitrates and lower phos also 20 no3 and 0.05 p04 I'm going to tag along see if u figure anything out......I've never messed with any zeo products kinda confusing there's so many .... Good luck bro

I use to run full zeovit but then I switch to just running zeobac start and sp with refugium I was able to successfully maintain the balance and keep my levels same as when I was running the reactor..I also know a few friends doing same thing ..

that ratio is for phyto plankton and algea uptake, bacteria ... and specifically the Genetically modified bacteria we buy in bottles, are specifically modified to not have that ratio of nutrient uptake. of course, it all depends on how well they are fed to populate ... [C]

Ok.

I am a zeovit dealer so I will just grab one off the shelf and see how effective that is.

please kindly keep us posted. if zeobak can work effectively without the stones and reactor, that will sure be big news for me. the biggest drawback of zeovit is the commitment problem

How will you know if zeobac is effective or not? Suppose if you begin to see cyano or dinos it is not working effectively.

presumably if xenon's problem solves after addin zeobak dosin, it proves zeobak can work effectively with other supplements rather than the stones and reactor?

personally i'd switch to full zeovit system though. but the system requires too much labor and won't do good for guys who often travel

zeovit Stones [Zeoliths] are just a place for bacteria to grow. just like rocks, glass, and all other surfaces in our systems do. Due to high capacity of the Zeoliths .... they can colonize more bacteria than say ... Glass.

the reactor, is just an upflow ... it makes sure you get uniform flow through all the stones, so you use all the stones ... and that is it.

there is no connection between Zeoliths and Zeobac. Zeobac can grow on any surface. even live rock.

Use of the Zeoliths, however, seems to process po4 much better.

about the question of how we can tell Zeobak is working .... we cant to be honest ! problem here is no3 not reducing even though carbon is dosed. This can be due to many reasons, one of which is no bacteria in system .... so IFF thats the reason, then Zeobak can help. but again ... that might not be the reason so ...

Zeovit system with no stones can work, with LESS efficiency.

stones make it more efficient.

reactor makes it even more efficient. [100% of stones used where as passive stones might develop channeling and not 100% of stones get same flow. ]

HTH,

I just find it VERY interesting that the zeovit method requires bacteria to be constantly dosed in order for their system to work properly.

Maybe that is the missing piece of the puzzle for those that are only dosing a carbon source and not adding bacteria.

I use Vodka, 8ml/day on dosing pump

Vodka works well but I found when I was using it after a while it became to aggressive and stuff started to bleach. I should have dosed less and added vinager and suger.

Now I just use prodibio and it seems to be working well and not as aggressive.

not really to be honest.

the bacteria is to boost the cycle of new media. [when changed]

I dose now about 2-5 days after media change ... mostly to make sure all strains are given a second chance.

I stopped using the full zeo system a few years ago; I was able to achieve the same results with Oyster Feast and Vodka. The challenge intrigue me and I reached the mountain top.

Looking for a new challenge, anything out there?

I will share a nugget of information that Allmost is probably well aware and other Zeo users are seeking. Undetectable nitrates and phosphates are not the end game. Feed, Feed, and Feed.

Honey and milk dosing

Yes i do. Mostly when i add new fish. Just to give the new bioload a hand. I don't think its needed, and i only add one cap full of seachem stability for 200 gallons.

I jut orders zeobak pholes xtra and zeofood 7 and sponge power I don't run full zeo hopeing it will help my tank my vinegar dosing doesn't seem to be kickin in yet been few weeks

Or better yet I should ask is it safe for me to use zeobak and the products on my tank that's never had them? I dose vinegar for. 3 weeks with no results yet ?i don't want hurt anything?
