I use it for one week every month. Otherwise my water ends up too clean. Also its been pretty much confirmed that carbon use is the smoking bullet in regards to HILLE.
My issue is this. I've read of people complaining that ROX .8 carbon can cause STN, if used too aggressively. If it can cause STN, it leads me to believe it's stripping the water too clean.

I've also read on RC people saying after they refreshed their carbon, their corals looked like crap.
any sudden change, can cause STN !
drop in too much po4 remover, into a low nutrition SPS tank, and watch all corals STN !
its up to you of course ... but if you actually were interested and read the article, and saw the charts, it would make sense![]()
I personally do not like the BRS carbon, as they are too aggressive ... I like pellets more, seachem and black diamond and kz and many more ... and its generally adviced to use half the amount needed if running it in a reactor. and change every 2 weeks.
I have not seen a successful SPS tank that does not use carbon.
No comment about the tank. we each have our own standards ...
if you are trying to run a nutrition rich tank ... then I am not sure if SPS is your thing ...
its not like I work for a GAC company and am making you use it ! I was just pointing you towards the data showing it ... I guess somew ppl just like to be guided by the blind ... the best part of this hobby ...
ok I see it was wrong of me to help you, my bad![]()
So perhaps it's just BRS carbon that is the problem? I've was running ROX but had stopped. Perhaps I should try black diamond instead.
I do not run a ULNS and try and run a more nutrient rich system
Ive been running ROX for a month now on my ULNS system and i have no issues, what were you noticing that you took it offline? Ive been feeding much more since i brought the GFO / Carbon online to up the nutrients.
I've quite running carbon for about 4 months now and my acros have been loving it. The polyps seem much more healthier now than before. I am over skimming the systems too so I think this is a key factor as well.
