Carpet anemone lighting

I have gigs under Kessil LED (A360). One of my blues is directly under a A360N, with less than 10 cm of water above it and it seems to like it.

Though I feel intensity is only one thing. The right spectrum is equally important.
Of course flow is important too.
 
T5 MH LED all different lights and deliver the light differently. One will never eclipse the other because it can't replicate what the other does. You won't get the growth of MH while you won't get the coverage of T5's while you won't get the efficiency and control of LEDS. As far as I have been told and researched, LED's have done really well with gigs usually within the 10k range.
 
I also have 5 (of my 8) blue+ bulbs which isn't the best spectrum for gigs from what I've been told. I used to run radion g3 pro's earlier this year but I wasn't getting the growth I wanted out of my corals which is why I switched to T5's. Still undecided what I want to do. I'm currently treating my red haddoni and I may have to treat one of my gigs too so lighting is currently in the back of my priority list unfortunately.

This is exactly correct -- each light source has benefits. But specifically for gigantea, you'll have success with LEDs, so given its advantages, they're the light of choice. Mine do well under anything from 10-20k.

I think you're undecided because you need to decide on the type of tank you want. If it's a mixed reef, then cater to your SPS because the gigantea will be fine with the lighting you choose to encourage the most growth or color out of your SPS.

If you're planning to keep your gigantea and haddoni in the same tank, you may want to consider a lighting source with LESS penetration. This will allow you to keep your gig near the top of your tank, and the haddoni on the sandbed, and both will be happy with the light that they receive.

Quick comment. I agree that the lighting REQUIREMENTS of S. gigantea are much higher than those of S. haddoni. But that doesn't mean that S. haddoni cannot thrive in super intense lighting. I often see S. haddoni in the wild in shallower water than any other anemone. (Note my foot in the bottom of this photo)

where are you guys getting these gigs from? DD cant keep them on their site for more than a few seconds and that's at 300 bucks.

They are a lot easier to find than the clown in your profile picture...if that's a picture of Leucokranos :)

Finding gigs is easy. Liveaquaria and blue zoo pretty much seem to always have them. Finding a nice bright green or blue one is much harder. And then finding a nice one, having it shipped, and having it survive is hard as well. I'm still trying for a nice bright green one myself. I cheated and bought a well established blue one from another reefer. I've tried two bright green ones but neither made it through treatment. So far I am 2 for 4 with having gigs shipped to me and surviving.

I havent had much luck with regular fish at Blu Zoo, let alone attempted a carpet. D-Nak, I realize they frequently have brown ones but not blue or green. I may just give up and go with a brown/tan one given the price. Even the link you sent is sold out now! :)
As for the fish in my avatar - it's long gone. A tank of the past. The new clowns are osc.

I was there this past weekend and they had a small purple gig for sale. They ship them, so you should contact them and inquire.
 
that would be awesome but my fear is spending 100's of $ to get something that has a 50/50 chance of living.
 
My Gigs are under an 8 bulb ATI. Haddoni in other tank is under same light.

Tan gig is from BZ
