Carpet anemone reproduction

Hey All,
Have any of you out there actually cut yoru carpets in half with a ktichen knife? to make 2.

The half that survived is doing very well but still is not a equal circle 7 months after the cutting.

is there a way toget them to drop daughter colonies by stressing them out such as the case with BTA without chopping them in half?

It is a pretty rare occurance with carpet anemones and it is a very long (many months) process in carpets as opposed to BTAs that split overnight.

Here is a pic of a haddoni I had that appeared to be starting a bud. Unfortunately my clown forced itself through the "mouth" of the bud tearing the anemone. The anemone didn't recover from the tear.

well there has been some sort of study done that suggest certain anemones are either male or female, does this apply to Carpets?

Yes, this is true for carpets (BTAs too).
All clownfish host anemones reproduce sexually by releasing sperm and (usually)eggs into the water.

In some cases the eggs remain inside the female and are fertilized and grow inside the female until little babies are released (S. gigantea). I don't think the babies of haddoni and mertensi develop inside the female, but I am not certain.

BTA's release planula larvae that then become anemones after they settle.

Good to know, hopefully in a year i migh setup a carpet lagoon and see what develops. Do they becomes sexually mature when they get to certain size or age?
