Carpet Anemone/Ritteri Anemone

I have a 3 inch Regal Angelfish and a 3 1/2 Majestic/Blue Girdled Angelfish along with seven tangs in a five foot 120 high. Would it be safe for me to put a Carpet Anemone and/or a Ritteri Anemone in the tank. Would Perculas or Ocellaris Clownfish host in either of these anemones?

The tank is overstocked as it is. I wouldn't add anything. If you did add a large host species and it survived, you would most likely start losing fish to it.

I also think that this tank is overstock on fishes as is. While it is possible that H. magnifica can eat fish, this is unlikely. S. haddoni will surely eat one or two of the tangs or angels.

I see one of two things happening, the anemone wouldn't make it, or in the case of keeping a "carpet" a Haddoni would most likely eat a good amount of the fish, and given the amount of fish in that tank, that would be a good thing.

But, in either case, I feel that adding either anemone to that system would be a poor choice, and that you should really think about reducing the bio-load of the tank.

Three long tentacled anemones

Three long tentacled anemones

Thank you for your input.

Although I thought I new better I had to ask. It helps to here voices of wisdom from time to time. I did want to stop my male clarkii from hosting in the Green Goniopora. On the left side of the tank the Clarkii pair only had a small four to three to four inch Long Tentacled Anemone (bluish white) to host in as the pair of Tomato Clowns had the eight inch Red Rose Bubble Tip Anemone to host in on the right side.

Petco had three nice looking Long Tentacled Anemones with greenish/tan looking tentacles. I place them in the left end in a coral of live rock rearranged around my crushed Florida coral substrate separate from the first LTA. I used rock by taking down a cave I had made for a Red Chili Coral was not benefiting from the cave.

I put them in around noon just as the 322 watts of CF actinics came on. When I arrived home at three, the 322 watts of
7,500/10,000 CF daylights had been on for two hours. All three anemones looked ok and both Clarkii's were able to host in them at the same time. It was almost comical to see the pair hosting in the first LTA which was not big enough for the both of them. I have a picture of the two side by side with one against the anemone which faces sideways from underneath a piece of live rock.

Recently over the last couple of weeks, I have been working with a Marine Biologist to lower my nitrates. She tells me I will be ok with 20 ppm for an LPS reef tank although I will need to be around 0ppm before adding any SPS coras. I had been overfeeding the tank with liquid coral food and Vita-Chem. I hope to have the nitrates to around 20 ppm after this weeks water change and will keep working at getting as close to zero as possible.

I have two Rena XP4 canisters, each rated up to a 265 gallon tank. The first media basket has two course and two fine sponges. The second and third media baskets have Eheim Efisubstrate Pro, about two liters worth, and the fourth media basket has two 10 oz Chemi-Pure bags and two Chemi-Pure Elite bags.

In addition, I have two Hagen 110 Powerfilters each rated up to a 110 gallon tank with a block sponge and one liter of Eheim Efisubstrate Pro in a course media bag.

Joining the filters is a new Aqua Medic Turboflotor SL 1000 with a 1200 Ocean Runner pump rated for up to a 250 gallon tank and 150 pounds of live rock.

Circulation is provided by two 3,250 gph Hydor Mag 8s and one 1100 gph Seio pump.

I realize I may be trading in some of my tangs and possibly an angel in the future for store credit up north at Aquarium Paradise. The Regal Angel is 3" and the Majestic is 4" and the tangs range from three to five inches. For the time being I enjoy them swimming around in the current of the pumps.

My Tomatos have just laid a second batch of eggs on the live rock near their Red Rose BTA. I have given them eighteen inches of live rock from the right end of the tank for themselves. I am thinking of adding a green and possibly another red BTA for the Tomato clowns.

Depending on how everybody does, I would like to replace the Tomato clowns' Red Ritteri I had on the top center of the live rocks I lost in a heat wave last summer. I now have air conditioning and do not need a chiller.
