Hi wij,

I had a similar thing happen recently, though with a different fish and anemone species. I was trying to lead my clownfish to my bta via a trail of food lol (it didn't work, the clownfish will not go near him). It just so happened that my mandarin goby enjoyed the food trail too and was not afraid to take it from the bta. This resulted in the goby getting stung. It happened around 6 PM and he started breathing really heavy at the bottom of tank as you described. He also was not moving around looking for copepods as he usually does 90% of the day but was instead just sitting in one spot breathing really hard. This continued throughout the night until I went to bed. The next morning when I woke up he seemed back to his normal ways.

All of that was to say, if your experience is anything like mine, he will recover shortly. For reference, my bta is about 3 inches in diameter and my goby is about 2 1/2 inches long.

Good Luck!

It's hard to tell depends on the size of the fish and the type of nem some nems pack a more powerful punch and it also depends on how many times the fish got stung but you can't tell just by looking good luck
