has anyone ever had a carpet anemone split on its own in their tank? i get the feeling by the looks of mine that it is splitting and i was under the impression that true carpet anemones do not do this in a tank. this is a full size 20" anemone. not the mini maxi stuff.. i will get pictures up later of the anemone and why i think its splitting...

this is not the mirror reflection of the glass.. he stoped grabbing the bottom, came to the top of the sand bed, and what looked like 2 feet on it. does anyone know what it looks like when one of these anemone reproduce?

just a little back ground, it has been in my tank for about 2 or 3 years, been moved a few times but still, in my hands for that long.

the clowns have been with him for a few months now

S. haddoni do not split. They do get lots of folds that may look like they are about to split, but they don't. I had one for 12+ years, grew rather large, and even looked like it was separating (( by the way it folded itself )), but it was just an optical illusion.

Before he was large he had some folds, then, when he came to the surface, he scrunched up alot, still open, but now he is big again and like you said, looks folded, ill keep an eye on him (calling it him because it is big).

when i first got him, he was about 8", now he would clear 16 to 20", but after this thing of moving to the top, folding, he looks to be about 16 at most. my anemone split upstairs and it was cool and i didn't think haddonii split so i was worried when i came down and what looked like two feet.

There are reports and pictures of haddonis forming "buds" that eventually grow to the size of the original anemone, so there are two equal sized anemones sharing the same foot. However, there is no documentation that I am aware of where the anemone actually finished the split and became two.

does anyone know what it looks like when one of these anemone reproduce?

They are only known to reproduce sexually. Here's what a female looks like when she's attempting to reproduce, and I believe Todd has pic's of his male spawning.

That video looks awsome...so I read a little on them cloning themself..but if he has had his for 12 years then I don't have to worry lol

I do have another anem. In the tank, rbta, been together over a month , the carpet was seated to the bottom of the tank. Got up this morning, moved and ws staying on top the sand, open but weird

IME, S. haddonis and E. quadricolors don't mix -- the haddoni will start to move around. There is a chance that this is what you are seeing.

the last few weeks the carpet has not moved or anything, ...here is a pic of the tank just now when i came home. the carpet looks good.. i tried to measure with the tape i would say he is at 17 or so right now. but he still is not in the sand bed. he is barely attached to a rock...so not sure...

If nothing else has changed within the last month, I am still going to say that it is the E. quad. An S. haddoni being irritated by another anemone doesn't have to happen overnight.

ETA -- with the newest picture, can see the mouth starting to open up, another sign of an irritated anemone.

he is moving closer to the rbta, should i move him to keep them separated? they were at opposite ends of the tank, and both have moved towards each other, the rbta is on a rock so all i need to do to move it is move the rock

im just confused on that they have been together for over a month or so and not once were they moving, 2 weeks in the old tank, and now for about 3 weeks in this tank, then over night, bam, carpet moves, rbta moved when i first put it in the tank, but has not moved since it found its home. it has been on the rock that its on since i first got it a month ago, when i switched tanks it moved around on that rock again, but came back to the same spot, and is planted,
