Can you guys help me ID this carpet? I went shopping for a carpet today and when I asked which specific one it was the girl didn't know just said it was a carpet.

This is while it was acclimating

Based on the description I would say its a gigantea. However, I don't expect it to last more than a week if not treated with Cipro or another antibiotic. It looks to be in bad shape.

if you can take a photo of the underside of the oral disk and foot, we can give you a positive ID. If it's got purple spots then its a gig, if brownish orange than it's a helianthus.

Right now it's guts are sucked in and mouth is almost fully closed

Regardless, healthy gigs never expose their guts or open their mouth a lot, or flatten out. These are all signs of a sick gig. If treatment isn't started soon, it'll die within a month.

Ok I'll stop by the vet tomorrow and see if I can get a prescription.

I just called my vet and they said they can't give me the prescription. Do you think I have time to wait to get it from eBay?

go ahead and buy some Fish Flox even if it's too late. if the med arrive too late you can always use it on the next carpet. that carpet appear to be a really nice one.

call your dentist or any of your friends who are in medical profession they can prescribe cipro for you.

those who wants to get a carpet or mags, do yourself and the nem a favor, prepare to have all the things you need before you set out and buy the nem. it will save you money, save the nem and a lot of heart break.

Yes -- anyone in the medical profession can prescribe Cipro. And definitely have it on hand prior to getting a gig or mag, they'll need it probably 90%+ of the time. Also have the QT tank ready to go.

I can get a few from a local reefer, but he has 500mg. Are they easy to break in half or is it no good?

Yes -- it's easy to break in half with a Chef's knife. The dosage doesn't need to be exact, as gigs (at least the ones I've treated) are forgiving in terms of ODing.

D-Nak thank you very much for identifying an unhealthy carpet for me. After the first night if treatment it looks like it's holding itself up a little better and spread out more. Mouth is still open a bit but at least there's improvements!! Please excuse my ignorance from earlier.

Here it is about 18hrs after the first dose. After seeing such improvement I now see that it would have never survived without treatment.

And here is the pic of the underside requested earlier to confirm ID of a gig

I also stated before the the foot was purple, now that it is getting healthier the foot is now blue.

This is far from being healthy. Best of luck with him. Continue with treatment

Well did my 50% WC and second dose about an hour ago and now it looks worse than ever. It's shriveled up again and now spitting up its insides. :( I really hope it's not too late. I'm going to keep dosing until it hopefully makes a full recovery. *fingers crossed*

Just got home from work and checked on my carpet. The mouth was closed but deflated. I hope this is a good sign. Does it look any better? Should I up the dose to 500mg for a day?
