This was my first gigantea. I was just getting my feet wet with keeping gigantea. I did not really know how to tell if it was healthy or not at the lfs. At that time, I just want something for my clowns to host it since I've removed all my RBTAs in the tank. And I just found out that gigantea is the natural host for Percula clowns. Long story short, this gigantea didn't last too long. Less than a week....it melt.
My second gigantea was a mistake. Mostly due to my part. A local reefer said that he has two large carpet and is selling one of them. I
assumed he has kept them in his tank and is now too large so I jumped on the sale quickly. Upon picking it up, it was in this sump! I asked how long has he had it and he said "it just arrived from the west coast a couple days ago". I knew I was about to throw away two dead Benjamins but didn't want to back off on the sale so I brought it from anyway. It was huge and was doing good for about a week then slowly declined to its death.
Then I took a break from gigantea for a while. Made a few changes in the tank and set my heart into keeping gigantea. Boosted the flow, upgrade the skimmer, and changed my gigantea lighting acclimation habit. I finally got this one about 3weeks ago. It's bleached, yes. But it is small and it's a verocious eater. So far the color is coming in nicely. 3 weeks in now.
