Carpet Questions

I have a pair of Gold Strip Maroon Clowns and that being said I have tried 3 BTA's for them. For whatever reason my tnak is not the place for a BTA...they always crawl under a rock out of the light and die. I assume it's either from my flow or my lighting is to intense. I have 3x250 watt halides and tons of flow. Water params aren't the issue as I have lots of SPS and some LPS all doing great.

Back to the topic of the thread, has anyone seen GSM clowns host in a carpet??? I really want a blue or purple carpet but would like my clowns to host in it. My tank is 280 gallons and without removing all the rock there is no way to get them out and swap for different species. Plus I have had my female for 5 years and I am attached to her and her boy whom I have had for 2 years. They keep mating but none of the babies survive cuz all my other fish eat them.

I am also considering a Purple LTA cuz I know they will probably host in it but I really want a carpet.

Thanks, I love that purple LTA..I thought about selling it once because I didn't think my Chrysopterus clowns would take to it. I just couldn't part with it ..so I didn't care if my clowns moved into it or not. They spend more time in the purple LTA, than my expensive Mertensii.

Make sure you find a very large healthy purple LTA..maroons love anemones to death.

Before getting an anemone try to figure out why the other ones didn't make it. What is your temperature at? How big were the BTAs, and how big were the clowns?

BTAs are generally pretty hardy. I got my GBTA from a guy that had it under a 250W halide. It was less than 3 inches from the waterline. What do you have for flow in your tank?

I would also try and figure out why bta are not thriving in your tank. I have had clowns host in anemones immediately and had other that have taken months. Being that they are a natural host for maroon clowns I would put them down as my first choice for clown hosting anemones.

I think the BTA's didn't survive due to my agressive clowns. It takes the male less than a minute to start trying to host and he doesn't ever leave them alone. All the BTA's I have tried were 3 to 4 inches...my female clown is about 5 inches and my male is about 3. I think the combo of them trying to host is the cause.
