Carpet

I really want to get a carpet. I have a mixed reef and have a spot that would be perfect for one... Is it a good idea to get one with my reef? What prices should i expect to get one dosn't have to be numbers just on color and of course larger is going to be more than smaller.

Since no one's willing to touch your thread...

Everyone has an opinion. whether or not it works, one can say it will, one will say in won't. I was told by a highly revered LFS owner my 210 would be too small for a carpet. (I think he thought I was new, I was asking him alot of questions to see his points of view). I now have 2 happy carpets in a 75. I don't know you or your abilities and dedication, just like the "know it alls" don't know mine. I think the average person asking for a carpet in a 55 gallon up for 8 months is asking for trouble, but you may be above average and pull it off with ease. I did alot of research and reading before I got mine. You'll find after all that work, there's still more you don't know. No one knows all...

As for price, you can spend $30-40 for a small from a LFS, or hundreds$$$ and up on line. I've found it's best to have the LFS order one and GET IT BEFORE THEY PUT IT IN THIER TANKS!!! Or live aquaria - they stand behind them with a guarentee. LFS do not. As for how to choose a good one, that's a thread of it's own. Good luck.

well to be honest with my experience you can put about anything if your willing to take care of it. i had a ritteri anemone in my 55 gallon tank for 3 years until i got rid of it and i had a simple hangon filter. now thats not a carpet but i was always told not to get one they are very hard to care for yet i barely did anything for it just put a powerhead by it and he was good. i wouldn't recommend getting a carpet in a tank less than 55 though its just to small. in my eyes but what do i kno lol
hope it helps

Thank you very much for replying...As far as my skills with taking care of a reef tank...i would think b/c of the time i take each night feeding and dosing when needed and testing my water i would think i am above average at doing so...Also looking at the time i spend on here and researching and reading i think it helps...i was just looking for opinions on prices in a store so i don't walk in and don't know what to expect and opinions on if it would work in a reef b/c i've read nothing that can sting should be in a reef but i've got a BTA and a hatian in mine that i have no problem with and plus a carpet isn't going to move around as much i woudln't think...But thanks for the advice and response

liveaquaria.com would give you a good range even if its not in the anemone section search carpet anemone in the search tool in the top right corner. That should help.
