carpets in BB?

i was wondering if carpets need sand to bury their foot or can you just place them between 2 rocks?

anyone have a carpet in a BB tank?

I have kept haddoni carpets with just a dusting of sand. They attached themselves under a rock crevice instead. Be warned however, when they contract, they can move the rocks around them with disasterous results.
Traveller 7 likes to put his haddonis in tuperware containers full of sand in his BB tanks.
When you ask about carpets in the future, you might want to specify the species. Haddoni carpets, Giant carpets(S. gigantea) and Merten's carpets (S. mertensii) all have quite different requirements in the home aquarium.

Take a look, i have a sand bed, but yet to see him place his foot in the sand, he has stayed in the same spot for over a week, with his foot in the rock crevice.

Bluecarpet that tanks looks to a jbj 12g nano, if it is stock the anemone will probably die over the next few months. They need there foot placed in a dsb and a very high amount of light which a stock nano does not have.

It is not a stock as you can tell by the coloration of the lighting. And they dont need a dsb, by the way.

Haddoni's prefer to attach on rockwork when they are juveniles. As they get older and bigger, they tend to wander downwards and will eventually want to bury their foot in sand. As has been mentioned sometimes they will bury their foot in a crevasse or under a rock, but unless the rocks are -very- heavy they will move those rocks around with ease, toppling your entire reef structure. (Been there, done that...)

Another thing to consider is that, in time, haddoni's will reach 24" in diameter.

BTW, bluecarpet, I like your little setup, very nifty. Nice carpet too. Just be prepared for the growth of that little guy over the course of the next year or so. The other thing to be prepared for, in a small setup like that, fish may end up a meal, haddoni's are very sticky and very efficient eaters.

I agree that carpets when young like the rock a lot better, but when older like the sand a lot better, like you said. Thank you for the kind words. I do plan on him getting much bigger and would like to see him get to his full potential in size, but only time will tell. I plan on keeping him in there for about six months to a year depending on i much i feed him will determine that. When he is out of the tank i have some frogspawns, toadstools, hammers, that will take his place and make the tank look just as good. But not really the same, when people come over to my house and see my nano, the very first question is what the heck is that blue thing? And boy do i love to tell them, its like my buddies dont even care about my lagoon anymore, it must be because the carpet is new.
