I bought a 90 RR tank and want to get all my livestock transferred over but i am scared about my carpet that i have had for 6 mth.
What is the best way? Im planing on using the sand from my 46 bow to seed the 90. How long should i wait to put the carpet in the new tank? Any advice would help from the carpet pros would be greatly appreciated!

You only want to use sand from the very top of the SB, maybe a cup or two. Let the new tank mature for a couple of months. I would transfer the anemone last, after your fish settles down in a new home.

Your carpet probably has its' foot attached to the glass at the bottom of the tank. Look from the bottom of the tank to confirm).

Dig around the foot (chances are your nem will disappear under the sand once disturbed), then scrape it off the glass.

The carpet is 14 in so not sure that it will disappear in the sand , yes the foot is attached to the glass!
I was told that i can reuse all the sand form the bow just have to put any new sand on the bottom then the bottom layer from the bow front then the top layer from bow front. Is it not wise to reuse all the sand from a established reef w/o rinsing it?
Thanks C

I personally would not use any of the old sand.

Your old LR alone will cycle the tank and new sand bed.

If you use any sand from the middle and bottom layers, you will end up with a spike in pretty much every parameter. And you would not like the smell of old DSB ;)

Im already thinking about my wife complaining about the smell. So not having a well established sand bed is not a factor in how the anemone will do?

I did not say that :)

Having a well established tank is a factor, IMHO.

Can you tell I am not a fan of DSBs? :D

Ok well i think that i will be ok w/ all my cured LR plus some that im getting from a fellow reefer. I Will probably allow the the tank to fun for a mth and will probably put a rbta in there before i add the carpet! I have my refigum running now to hope fulle get a jump on things!:bum::
