Caspian's Reef

I missed out a picture.... as i wasn't sure there would be a wifi signal in the sump room or if some equipments purchased in the future might need ethernet i ran a cat6 cable.. the grey cable on top of the fuse box is cat6 cable... oh beauty of cat6 is i can have ethernet line as well as telephone line coming though it .... so i can have a separate router/switch box as well as connect a telephone to the landline incase i have to pick up the phone.. saves me running around looking for a phone lol :)

WOW!!! That is a lot of work. I got tired just reading the thread.

What an AMAZING transformation. The room is beautiful and I am looking forward to the build.

Thank you for your nice words :fish1:

It is coming along nicely, should have the tank on the 18th, however the rest will be slower specially the biggest obstacle choosing the right lights :p...

Thanks
Caspian

looks great!, looks like you will not be able to fully open the garage door once the tank is in?

Well spotted mate, :fun2:

The plan is to have a remote controlled garage door which will be insulated! However i might opt out and just close off the the garage door when the main tank is in...

p.s. your build thread is on my read list, keep up the good work mate.

Thank you
Caspian

Ok i might as well give some update... apart from the new tank and all the things to think of i have to move in the house also.... so this weekend is out of the question as we have typical english weather RAIN!... however the tank is due to be delivered on the 18th! so i need to paint the walls with a special paint i found used for waterproofing ponds and reservoirs :))).... then i will use a PVC hygienic cladding on the tank side of the wall...

Also the stand needs to be made which a good friend of mine is in charge of that... fingers crossed :)...

After the tank is delivered and on its stand i will deign the sumps and frag tanks which i think it will be 5 tanks and an extra 1000 ltr of water.....

My biggest obstacle is choosing the right lighting.... i have already purchased Triton Lani Leds which are custom made but they are only 2 x (40cm x 72cm) therefore i either need 4 more units or go for a complete new set of lights and use the Lani's for my coral farming as these lights really grow sps :)

Thanks
Caspian

Wow! I get all sorts of grief for dominating my boiler room with sumps, equipment, etc., don't think I'd be able to get away with the garage :) BTW, all walls are brick - even the interior ones?

Nice planning and thank you for the kind words! It sounds like what I did to waterproof my stand . I think it's a white pvc shower liner. It's easy to clean and looks great.

:lol2::lol2: well i had get her to choose all the colours and and flooring and so on in the house ... basically i got to choose the hole in the wall and the garage lol...

Yes most Houses in UK are brick built well the older ones ... inside gets a render and then skimmed.

Thanks

Good Evening All,

Well evening here :)

Sorry for the lack of updates,

It has been a very busy few weeks with work, finishing off the house move and trying to please the mrs! After all I'm aloud a big big fish tank and occupied the garage completely

Ok where to start as there has been some progress slowly but surely...

After going over the idea of having a stand made for the tank and how practical it will be in the fish room.. i.e accessing the sum and the equipments within!

Therefore i resorted to having a stand made with concrete blocks and two RSJ's,

Here is the drawing i gave to the builders do build the concrete blocks which would be levelled perfectly
aquariumstand.jpeg

As you can see with the drawing the RSJ was suppose to be levelled with the 12'' external wall which 1/3 of the tank would seat and the plan was to have a 25mm Marine Ply to seat on top of the wall and the RSJ....

BUT just out of curiosity i asked an structural engineer to have a look at the drawing and instantly he advise i need to check the foundation, i needed 60cm of concrete in order for it to hold the weight of the tank with any subsidence in the future! So i had to tell the builder to check and they started to dig and dig and dig
photo-212.jpg

After 1 hour they only managed 20cm :) so i had to tell them to stop because it was obvious there was a proper foundation and there was no need of doing a new one!!

So they started the work, sorry about the quality of the pictures as i was not around while all this was being done:o
