This is the problem i have a large 400g tank and there's a tomato clown that i can't catch have tried everything clear bag fishing line cast net. If someone has a trick up there sleeve that will catch this fish without destroying my tank in the process i will give them $100....Must brings your own tools nets slurp gun..Tank is in maitland plus you get a free clown...

goto the local tackle shop and get a tiny hook and some 2lb test line, file the barb off, bait it with some mysis and catch the clown out and you can then safely remove the hook with minimal harm to the clown, catch and release.

The problem with fishing it out is there are to many other fish in there that go after the bait and i don't want to hurt any of the fish..

with the barb filled off you won't harm the fish and it's easier then it sounds. add a little food to the tank, get the fish feeding and then drop the bait in front of the clown. I've caught several damsels and a couple clowns out of systems this way.

here is what you do> read this whole thing first before cutting anything.

1. get a 2 liter bottle and cut the bottom off. also cut a 2" by 4" hole in the side(make sure it is a clear 2 liter and the plastic wrap is removed.)

2. drill a 1/4" hole in the top of the bottle cap

3. insert tubing through the hole and secure on the inside of the top with a rubber band.

4. submerge the 2 liter and dig it into the sand so it stays in place.

5. get some frozen shrimp and with a turkey baster, inject the shrimp down the line. the fish will go crazy trying to find the food.

they will go through the 2 x 4 hole in the 2 liter to eat the food . from there just spin the bottle and put the hole against the glass. once the fish is in the bottle pull the 2 liter up and cup the bottom against the glass. I have caught fish and clowns using this method. if you have questions pm me. good luck! i will be waiting for my 100.

Easier said then done the tank is about 7-8ft high and 8ft long can't really pull canopy off so i cant reach the bottom. Here's and old pic the tank is now full of corals and alot more stuff was added to tank...

I'm up for a challenge. I'm off on Friday and will take a stab at it then if you still have a problem. Is the front part of the canopy hinged? How do you access the tank?

Where does it sleep? Why not wait till the lights have been off for an hour and go at him with a net and flashlight? Complete darkness and just use the light to check for him.

Also, this works in my bigger tanks. clear glass jar with food in it and sink it. It takes them a while to find their way in and almost as tough to find their way out. If you watch you could get out the jar before he finds the way out.

Get someone to help
Drain tank down to a couple inches
Have extra new saltwater for displacement on hand
Remove top rocks if necessary/corals can sit out of water for the time it takes, or place into buckets with water that is coming out of tank
Remove fish
Replace water
Done in 30 min or less
I can help if you would like, but I don't want the clown.
I also have a slurp gun.

Can't move the rocks it will all fall apart it would be a mess not enough room to to move stuff around. I think a slurp gun would work best can i borrow it? Here are so more recent pics

He's a real pain in the A## always moving stuff around the tank picks on other fish plus i want to put some baby clowns in there..

Agree... but my tank is only a 120gal

Hehehe...I just had to get out two tangs and a rabbitfish from my 55G..the tangs were difficult, but do-able after pulling out some rock. For the rabbitfish, I had to pull out every single piece of LR and attached coral to get him...the little bugger pretty much clings to rocks and becomes invisible(changes colors to match the rock).

I feel your pain...I wish you all the luck in the world with your dillema. Tomatoes can be a real pain.
