I go fishing frequently for ghost shrimp and small minows that I freeze and feed to my anemone. Tonight I was out and caught a pipefish looking creature in a deep pool of water it was solid white with only a back fin. I didnt think there were any in the area im in. I live in biloxi mississippi. Anyone know what kind it was based on the information I gave?
I didnt have phone with me to take pictures and I didnt want to take it home since it would likely die in my aquarium.

I's suggest Google "gulf coast pipefish" click over to images and see if any are close. There appears to be a variety of them from Texas all the way over to Florida.

Cheers,
Ray

The gulf coast has several species of pipefish. 7 that I know of along with dwarf seahorses and Erectus seahorses. We catch sargassum pipefish and gulf pipefish all the time along with a seahorse here and there at my place in Matagorda, Texas. You will have the same species in Mississippi.

Was it stiff, or could it bend its body? If it was stiff, you probably caught a trumpetfish or cornetfish. If it could wiggle around like a snake, it was probably a pipefish.

I had a juvenile trumpet fish back in the 90s - really cool fish. Unfortunately he sucked up some crushed corals while I wasn't home and suffocated.
