you are going to want a bigger sink. I put in a decent utility sink but find that my reactors etc. do not fit well into it. When I remodel my tank room, I will go with an extra extra large sink.

"they harden it after they cut it"?......hummm wonder how they do that?

Like I said I am no glass expert so what I've been told by my lfs might be BS. I called them today and asked him about the glass since I had questions about it here and this is what he told me.

Wiki entry on hardened glass

"Toughened glass is made from annealed glass via a thermal tempering process. The glass is placed onto a roller table, taking it through a furnace that heats it to above its annealing point of about 600 °C. The glass is then rapidly cooled with forced drafts of air while the inner portion of the glass remains free to flow for a short time.

An alternative chemical process involves forcing a surface layer of glass at least 0.1mm thick into compression by ion exchange of the sodium ions in the glass surface with the 30% larger potassium ions, by immersion of the glass into a bath of molten potassium nitrate. Chemical toughening results in increased toughness compared with thermal toughening, and can be applied to glass objects of complex shape."

Yeah. I was thinking the same thing and but this was the largest I could find at the time. The collection cup for the skimmer is not fitting very well in there but this sink is a good start and it's easy to add a bigger one later.

looks like you have the room. My cup won't fit in mine either so I end up with water and crap all over myself.

The tempered glass can only be cut before it is blasted with the cold air to actually "temper" it. If you tried to cut it after the tempering process than it would shatter. The easier way to make it though would be to make the panes and not have to cut them....but I dont know what they do..

FWIW, "float glass" is nothing fancy....It's just the process wby which the glass is made...they "float" molten glass on top of molten tin. The tin has a lower melting point than the glass, and has a lower weight...so the glass floats, and remains liguid long enough to cool into a piece with even thickness.

Great project tank. It took sometime to build up a nice tank but it is a life time appreciation that will come. Enjoy your great work and affort.

We have been working hard on the plumbing and getting things ready for filling the thing up. We will start with freshwater to test various things and if everything is looking good I will continue with the light fixtures and then add sand and start the rockscape.

I'll post more pictures this week. My 'other' work has been in the way recently since we have big expansion just released for our game :D

WOW!

Arnar this is just crazy!
The next travel goes north:p

There is some private 3000liter tanks here in Norway, but you could use a 3000l as sump:D

Great tread with lots of updates!
Good luck with the rest of the setup!

And we have water going in the tank !

Today we finally got to the point of putting water into the main tank. Did not have time today to fill it but I will continue tomorrow and then see how the circulation works out.
