EBOLII "whatdo you estimate the watts for lighting will be?"

I am starting with 8x400W and 15x54W = 4010

reefer334 "Are you doing a garden reef or sps dominant. What types of fish are you planning on?"

Im going to create a peaceful garden reef. I haven't really made a fish list yet but I have some ideas. I've been concentrating on the build and while it cycles I'm going to start on the stock. I will probably ask you guys for suggestions when time comes ;)

1st vivid "looks great, but i think you need some extra light on the right"

I think the perspective of the photo makes it look like there is a lot of space on the right but we will see how this will turn out. I will also add 15 T5 bulbs for fill and colour.

weaselslucks "How far above the tank are the reflectors? just read they would be best at 16 to 22 inches in the reef mag"

I haven't adjusted them permanently but it will be in that 16 to 22" range.
--------

In other news... I have changed my mind on the closed loop system and dropped it altogether. I am going to buy 2x 20,000 l/h Tunze Turbelle streams instead. At the beginning the closed loop looked good on paper but it's a pain to set up and getting few extra powerful Tunze's is much cleaner and easier. I will have 6x 12.000 and 2x 20.000 on a controller to start with and we will see if more is needed.

I have my 1000W lamps 16" off the water. Ar eyou getting your hands on a set of 6301's?

Yep the new 6301 Tunze models.

Nice. I am going to be testing one for a super-sized built-in wave box. If it works out I will have 5 of them in waveboxes on my next tank.

Arnar,

I would love to give you some input on fish.

You know Clarion angels are available now hear in the states ,have you thought about one of those or a few for that tank?

Also I think a Crosshatch Trigger pair is a must.

Are going have clams as well as other inverts?

Keep up the goodwork!!!!:D :D

Chris

neither of those is really "peaceful". we would really need to learn more about Arnar's reef goals and philosophy before we can get into his fish selection.

Something tells me that such a dtail-oriented guy is going to be very particular about the fish he keeps.

Arnar is busy programing fish that will blow away clarion angels.

 no doubt.

As far as a stocking list, there's no way to know. Everyone has a different idea on what the stocking level should be, and it all depends on how he feels about that.

I have about 35 fish in my tank, but many reef keppers would stock at double or triple that. I just want to keep my bio-load down to make my life a little easier.

Pete spreading sand

Almost half the sand is in the tank

As per stocking list.. i think one flame prawn goby should be plenty.. he can play hide and try to seek out an impossible fish.. :D

Very nice:D
Just spent most of the evening reading through the post and not doing any maintenance to mine.

Cheers
Pete

Tonight I finished cleaning the rest of the 500Kg sand we are using for the tank so that chapter is finally done and all the sand is in the tank. Would like to thank Pete for cleaning most of it though but that guy is one crazy workhorse. :)

Next tuesday I will hopefully get my mounting brackets for the T5 lights so I can finish that. Once the T5 are in I can finally move on to the baserock. Doing the rockscape is one of the things I have been looking forward to the most and I hope I can build something with lots of cool natural features.

I would also like to start looking at making some fish stocking plans. In the small temporary tank we have few fish that I got as a gift from my friend who was taking down his tank : 2xclowns, Betta, Sailfin Blenny & 2x tangs. Guess I'll have to add one or two more fish :D

Anyone have experience with a Betta ? Will it eat all crustacians ? I also have a longspince urchin in the sump which I am not going to put in the big tank since I will actually be walking in it.

Bettas are way cool and can live peacefully with snails, crabs, and larger shrimp. I have a buddy with one and it does fine with snails, cleaner shrimp, sally lightfoot, and bristle stars.

However, this fish tends to hide quite a bit so in your tnk you may not see it more often than just at feeding time. They are interesting fish though, especially when they invert in a hole and wave their big "eye".

I hope the clowns are NOT maroons. If they are, I would not put them in the tank.
