CCP's 2000 gallon Deltec reef tank

I would agree with jnarowe. My maroon clown killed a couple of fish that I tried to add to the tank. She was sold to the LFS.

Mine is cool with most fish except for a couple of wrasses, but overall the issue in my system is with corals. The female hates most corals and specifically montipora. She attacks me constantly and destroys corals that I put in "her" area, which is about 3+ square feet of the tank. She tosses rocks around and I have to wear reef gloves to do anything on her side of the tank. I would love to strangle her and eat her in front of the other fish. grrrrrr.

I've got a pair of Maroon Clowns and the female is constantly doing some aquascaping. She moves massive amounts of sand and clears a big area all the way to the bottom if allowed. She moves everything that can be moved and breaks off corals in attempt to move them. I still love the pair, they are just doing their natural cleaning around home routine.

I arranged rocks so sand is difficult to move and make sure not to have anything loose around them.

Since I'm Icelandic too and done the work on the sand a couple of times I've got an advice for you.

It looks like you are cleaning the sand in an inefficient way and there is bound to be loads of sediments when the water gets in and the tank cloudy for a few days. Still it will linger for a long time, set in the sand and get loose again when it's moved around or cloudy the tank when blown off rocks.

I predict a few hundred litres of water will be spent by the overflowing skimmer for the first days, but it will only be enaugh to get some of it out.

This sand has been dry-shifted to get the most coarse parts out of it. There is a lot of dust in this sand and it needs to be departed from it before it gets mixed with the saltwater.

There has to be a clever way to do this with efficiency for such a large amount, but I used a mesh filter for my 100kg, huge amounts of water and it took half a day to shift all of it out. It's boring, but it has to be done properly.

The sand we are using is not from the 'usual' place where they dry the sand. I got it moist and when we put 40kg's in the 120ltr barrel its really easy to clean it with the pipe attachment which we use to stab trough the sand for a thorough clean. It works very well and each batch is about 30-45 minute work but time flies when you're having fun :)

It is all in the tank and I think it won't be a problem.

Arnar, is your job installing tanks or is this something that your boss asked you to do for the company? Either way it's really cool.

My job here is web developement and video productions. I've known the ceo before I started working here and the big tank is a project that they wanted me to take care of since I have experience and I also took care of their 2000ltr. tank at the old office when they were moving. We have the same passion for beautiful corals ;)

Not a bad project to have on the side at work :D

I sometime get a few emails for posts and then there are no new ones.

I wanted to ask if anyone knew a good place to buy frags in Atlanta or Boston ? My company has offices in Atlanta and when I travel there I need to go trough Boston.

Atlanta is hosting MACNA (largest trade show in the US similar to interzoo but yearly) this year, you should come for real..... more frags there than anywhere.

another thing you should do is get in touch with Greg Hiller and get a frag of everything he can cut for you in Boston area.

There are several places in Atlanta to buy Frags.
1. Cappuccino Bay Aquarium
2. Einstein Aquatics
3. Marine & Tropical Fish

If you would like to get the addresses and phone numbers just take a look at http://www.atlantareefclub.org and look for the Sponsor info.

Thanks for that into.

Today I finished cleaning the rocks and piled them into the tank. Yay !

Tomorrow I will start moving them around and try out some arrangements.

My final parts for the T5 brackets are ready also so I can finish the lights this week.

So now it's rock arrangements and then I think there is nothing left but to add water :D
