Centropyge Multifasciata VS Chaetodon Octofasciatus

I was wondering if someone could explain me why Centropyge Multifasciatus is classified under Centropyge/Paracentropyge and the Chaetodon Ocotofasciatus in Chaetodon genus ?

To me they look practically the same. Even that the Centopyge Multifasciatus has the same bottom front fin then a Copperband. Why is he in the centropyge genus ? I'm not sure if my question is clear because english is not my first nor second language and I something have difficulties to state my question clearly.

The only difference I can see is their mouth. Octofasciatus clearly have a chaetodon mouth when Multifasciatus have a centropyge mouth. Is it enough to classified then ?

The centropyge Multifasciatus is my favorite fish. I'm currently waiting for my LFS to find me a pair :) So I try to find all information about this fish I can get :)

Thank you

Next would be the obvious pointier beak of the butterfly vs the mouth of the angel...

Also the body of the butterfly is much taller than stretched like the angel.

If you follow the outline of the gill cover of the Centropyge, you will notice a spine that the Chaetodon does not have. Also when you start to get "nit-picky" (as science has to do in order to make sense of it all) you will notice differences in such things as number of spines in the hard and soft dorsal, as well as shape, arrangement, and size of scales. The coloring of marine fish can be a confusing thing to use for the purpose of identification because some species use the color and pattern of another fish as a means to protect itself. (The juvniles of the mimic tangs Acanthurus pyroferus and A.tristis, which mimic Centopyge angels are a good example.) I hope this helps.:)

the most important fact, may be, that the multifasciatus is NOT an easy fish to keep alive...do you really want to 'invest' in a pair, to start with?

Thank you SDguy, Ccambell57, goldenclove77, n8ureman, albano, tcmfish.

Thank guys for the information, that's exactly what I wanted to know. I knew they w
ere difference but could see them until you told me :)

albano, I know that these fish are not easy and I'm prepared to do everything to keep them healthy. I'm lucky because my LFS order from QM and they are all eating already so at least for the last 5 one they order in the last 2 years so I'm off to a good start.

They will be the first fishes I will add to my new tank when it settle and they will have only 1 CBB, 1 Foxface and 1 Cleaner Wrasse aaa and forgot my sleeper goldhead goby.

Also I did a follow on 4 of the 5 multifasciatus they sold and they are all doing well. The other one is because I don't know who's the owner so I couldn't contact him. So I hope everything will be fine.

Ive had a multifasciatus for 2 months now very difficult to keep. Ive only seen it nip at a rock once and never seen it eat, at this point I think it must be eating something but I don't know what it still looks healthy

It is a beautiful fish, hope I can keep him alive! Ive cut the head off that leather 3 times grows like a weed.
