Cephalo and fish compatability questions

In a octo tank, (Im just beginning learning about them) are there fish that are compatable?

IE, can you keep a lion, trigger, wrasses etc

Id like to have an octo with just a couple fish in the tank for some added movement.

Will a trigger attack it? Will it eat a trigger? A wrasse (harlequin tusk)

Thanks for the feedback, Ive got 2 tanks already, and the wife will kill me with a 3rd, but not if I can have her favorite fish!

there is really not much suggested to cohabitate with octos. Either the octo, will be predator or prey. even a small damsel could pose a problem to a new octo. starfish, and pencil urchins are about they only things I would recommend personally.

all the fish you listed would be a major issue IMO

they can all sting the octo, or it may really damagae the corals. either way not the best situation. In my dedicated octo tank all i had was a chocolate chip starfish, that my octo would literally use as a frisby. also some toys for him to play. crabs and snais were aslo in there for him to free hunt but they never last long. hope this helps!!

i wouldnt care about mushrooms etc getting damaged,,, I also dont know if zoas or shroom sting. I could for sure see issues with LPS, but I cant imagine it getting hurt by shrooms, maybe zoas if it ingested some some how.

Makes sense, at least having some cool urchins and starfish is an option, although Ive got an acrylic tank and some urchins will scratch it.

prolly best to do what I did then and stick with a chocolate chip. what size tank do you have I thought you were planning a new one. I had 2 and used the octo as an excuse with the wife to get a 3rd. I now get to get a 4th muhhahha

I hear your point on shrooms, but I just could never find it in myself to have something run the risk of killing them, I tried for to long to get to many corals to live I guess. also high water quality is a must for octos, was afriad of what might leach if any damage was done to them into the water column

however, only the pencil type of urchin is recommended not pin cushions. I am not overly fond of the pencils so I never got one

ya this is my 3rd tank as well, Ive got a 150 (225 total) main tank, an 18g nano (viaaqua) and the new octo tank is a 40g corner. I built a new sump for it, but havent measured to get volume yet.

Where are you finding your information such as pin cushions are not recommeneded, thats the kind of stuff I need to be reading.

I still just wonder about having things like GSP's, Xenia etc. Would make it so much more interesting than just rocks.

found any good books? Im planning on getting a Bimac from octopets.com

oh by the way Jim at octopets is where I got mine, great supplier so good choice there IMO

I'm vouching for Jim at Octopets as well. A friend of mine and I stopped by his business while in the area, and it is incredible!
