CF lighting for a SPS tank ?

Even SPS corals have different lighting requirements.
I've read at least one article where the author argued that LPS vs. SPS is a crude and not very helpful way to slice corals.

My point is that it might make more sense to figure out what you want to keep, and then let us know (if you care ;)) before determining if your lights will or will not work.

Depends what SPS you are wanting to keep. If it's a tank with only montipora then you might be able to get away with it.

Has anyone had success with CF lighting on a 75 gallon SPS dominate tank ? If so how many watts does it take ?

This was just a question if ANYONE had success with SPS and CF.It had nothing to do with what I wanted to keep. I was trying to get info if someone else had any luck. I they had my next question would have been to ask what they were keeping and at what wattage. It is a shame to get this kind of treatment for asking what seamed to be a simple (yes) or (no) question.

Sorry I caused such a stir ! I thinking it is easier to just read here and not post anything

Mope and drummerreef were right on and answered you respectfully. You asked how many watts does it take...it takes X amount of wattage depending on what you want to keep. That's not a simple yes or no question. It's a bummer you got some rough treatment at the beginning of the thread, but don't take it out on others trying to help you. You know?

Whether "ANYONE" is successful with SPS and CF's depends on what they want to keep and where they are able to put it in the tank.

I've kept monti's, digi's, and a couple acros under CF's, but I agree that they only lived, but didn't thrive.

With a 75 gallon tank you'll pretty much have to get a 4x65 setup.
That's the only that's going to cover 4ft of tank, unless you just have one CF on each side which wouldn't even keep them alive.

Either way, no matter what you want to keep, it's going to have to be right at the top of the rockwork very near the lights.

i believe that mark meleve has had some sucess with a smaller tank and cf that actually thived. i have also head of others doing it and the corals looked pretty decent, but you would have to have pristine water and a serious amount of light. it can be done but it is more practical and cheaper to use either metal halide or t-5. if you decide to try it post some pictures and let's see it.
