Chaeto and caulerpa

I recently recieved a ball of Chaeto and a ball of caulerpa. I have a couple questions though. I have read a lot of bad things about caulerpa. Can it migrate from sump into display? Also, can i place them into a smaller maybe ten gallon tank and feed them skimmate to boost their growth? Once they are substantial size return to sump. Ive not read anything on this idea and perhaps im wrong but i think this would work well.
Thanks for input in advance.

Give it a try and report your findings.

You're going to need light and water movement too. One complication could be that you get good growth with a skimmate-fed tank, then move it to your sump, and it has to adjust to a much more nutrient-poor environment. The larger size you achieved will want MORE nutrients, not less. You may be better off putting it right in the sump now, while its needs are LESS. It may be able to adapt its growth rate to the nutrients in your display. If you keep a very nutrient-poor tank, like a lot of reefers, you may not be able to keep either of them. Or, your skimmate experiment results in a nasty micro algae bloom. Or maybe it could work!

Give it a try and report your findings.

Thanks for the input. Ive decided to leave the Chaeto in the sump and experiment on the caulerpa. Its in a five gallon and being fed skimmate. Ill report how things go in the coming days/weeks.

i was thinking of doing this to quarantine the macro. This might be a good idea. will give it a try with a horticulture grow light, skimmate and a small pump.

Sounds like a good plan.

Just take it easy with the skimmate. You could end up with a mess of algae. But I am curious…
