Chalice dying!!!

Help! A galexia fell on my prized chalice while I was in vacation. When I got back, I threw away the galexia and examened the damage. There were dead spots where the galexia had been. This just happened last sunday. I thought that if I just left it alone it would heal. However, I have noticed the white spots are spreading! Also, everyday debris seems to be accumulating on it, and I have to vacume it off. Here are the pics:

Brand new chalice (so pretty :'()

The chalice is in my 2.5 pico contest tank (http://www.nano-reef.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=69606&st=80).
Its under two 9 watt flourescent lights (one actinic and one 10k) being run for 13 hours a day. I did a waterchange last sunday with catalina water.

What should I be doing? Is the vaccuming off debris daily a good thing or a bad thing? Will I have to cut off the dead parts? (I sure hope not)... Should I be dosing something?

im not sure exactly what you should be doing for sure, but it sounds like your giving it the best shot it has... maybe cutting off the dead parts might be a good idea, but dont take my word for it. Good luck with that though........ its a beautiful piece!

Has anything gotten near it to sting it? How far from lights. They like mh light. Not sure if the light is bright enough. How long have you had him. I have one very close to that one and its under 250w mh at near the top of the tank.

Alright, the weird white stuff is only spreading. I am starting to except the loss of this coral :( . I tried touching it with a chopstick and a small bit of the white stuff came off to reveal what seems to be the dead skeleton. I am afraid to do anything because I am wondering if the white stuff is good, and is some form of healing.

Heres an updated pic of it:

GGOOOOOODDDDDDD!!!!!! I hate galexia.

Its not good stuff but i wouldnt scrape it off. Thats dead tissue. If we had an idea what was wrong with it then Id say frag a good peice from it away from the white stuff. Then give it to a friend or club member to keep until its looking better. Like if it was stung by something, frag it and keep it and move the stinging culprit. But not really sure whats going on. If its the lighting then fragging it and giving it to someone to hold with higher light would tell.

Alright, the public has spoken. Surgery has been scheduled for 10:30 tonight :'(. On the meantime, I will hate all @#%%$% %^&*( GALEXIA.

If anyone has ANYTHING to say that will save me half of this coral, please oh please say something now.

wait wait wait. If its dead tissue, then isnt that just the coral getting rid of dead tissue to replace it with good tissue?

Great. Now with hopes it reverses. I though it eather looked like it touched another coral or perhaps something different but i think it might have a chance now. Galaxia's bad in the way of stinging and probably the worst if fallen on.

good luck with the healing process....... that probably is the best course of action you could have taken. keep us updated on the post surgery follow up.........

you might want to do a lugols dip on it in order to stop any infection. that saved an acan of mine. just a thought.

Alright, I think finaly saved it. The first time I fraged it, the infection started in another place. So I fraged it again, and so far the frag finaly looks good. Itts about a third of its original size. Heres a pic of hoe it is today.
