12'' from the bottom and im using 250 se radiums.My tank is 24'' tall hope this help.I know last time i saw Rons from Reeftech he had his 19''20'' from the bottom under 250 refluxs 12k.

Its about 12 inches from the bulb, about 4-6 inches from the surface of the water.

But I know people who have it on their sandbed as well, under 250 mh 14k. So it'll adapt.

Alicia said the same things back a few pages ago. I guess we are starting to understand how to care for certain chalices in captivity. Kind of like the mummy eye from ER does not like light and the 4 color color chalice from BB loves it. I have also found that if you put the rasta in the shade it will look a lot like the hybrid. I can get blue next to green rim.

One more reason that I enjoy corals that have been in capitivity for awhile and why I like lineaged pieces. I have bought a few nice transshipped dhalices, but over time they brown out. I still have them, just in case...

Bingo. I have kept chalices for a number of years but never fully understood their placement. For the life of me, I never could figure out the Watermelon chalice. It does seem like they prefer higher light over other chalices. Where do you have your pink watermelon at, Mark?

I just recently got another small frag. Please don't make me remember the last frag I got that melted within a week

I have the red in the shade and my new pink frag is on the bottom, but right under my DE 250.

Sang, the orangeish chalice you got from me is not the Orange Sherbert, I call it my Peach Astro. I picked it up from James at Aquascene back in 2005. It is sweet but not the same as the Orange Sherbert. My LE Pink watermelon likes high light but you have to acclimate it to your system first, easy to bleach out when first introduced to a new tank.

Mark, you got a LE pink watermelon eh?? Now I figure you wont need a frag of mine, lol.

Mark, hahaha...joking of course, "our" little watermelon is growing very nicely. I was thinking about 4-6 more weeks and I will cut it. It should be a nice little frag with an eye or two. Then I'll let it heal. By that time I'll be due to come up and visit or maybe you and Tim can come down and visit the wine country .
