Chances of Ich

A friend and I both bought PBT from the same supplier about a week ago. Both of us put the fish in quarantine. His fish developed ich (now doing better). My question is: What are the chances that mine doesn't have ich (no signs yet)? I have 3 other fish in the same quarantine and will they all be infected?

I would put the chances of ich with a Powder Blue tang at 99.9%. Be prepared for it and treat it. And yes, the other fish will at least be carrying it too.

Unless the LFS where you got the tang treats with copper, then the chances decrease that it is infected.

Well, sort of. If the supplier keeps copper in their system at a non-therapeutic level, the odds of some parasite coming in with the fish increases rather than decreases.

If you acquired two fish (you and your friend) from the same supplier and one exhibits ich symptoms, the odds of the second fish having ich is very, very high.

Well, the first and most important word in your question is 'quarantine'! Kudos to you for doing it, saves a ton of time, frustration and money. Regardless of what your friend experienced, I always assume a fish like a PBT has ich, and would treat it accordingly. It is fine to QT fish in the same tank if they are acquired at the same time, but I generally don't add a new fish to an already 'established' QT (because it essentially reset the clock). Since you ought to be treating the PBT as if it has ich, the others in the tank will get treated also, so no big deal.

So with no signs of ich, how long for the cupramine? Does it have to be longer as I've read 4 weeks from the last sign of spots. Or is this prophylactic and do a 14 day treatment at 0.5?

30 days for cupramine or just do the Tank Transfer Method and your done in 14 days with less stress than cupramine

I am thinking of removing the copper I've already added and trying the tank transfer method. Two weeks vs four sounds good since they've been in QT for around 3 so far.

If you are able ich is very curable.

I generally am not concerned about ich transmission within the QT. Certainly, the starting date for the QT period has to be at the time the last fish is added. For me it is 12 weeks after the last addition to QT, at least.

I am very concerned about bacterial infection transmission in QT, because it is not always curable. I do not put fish with bacteria infection together if the infection has separate history.

After further reading I'm going to do 2 doses of prazipro during ttm. On the second and fourth transfer.

So this morning was the first tank transfer. Of course now my hippo tang has white ich spots on it........not the PBT. Ugh

The hippo is in the qt with the three other fish. All put in there at the same time but the PBT and the pair of anthias were from the supplier with ich, the hippo different supplier.

All fish goin through ttm.
