Changing a Clown's anenome

I have a female Clarki (male jumped, replacement in QT) and she has lived in her anenome for 3 years. It used to split often and I have some little ones in teh sump. The anenome hasn't split in maybe 18 months and it is MASSIVE. It is 2 foot in diameter when it expands a few hours after the halides come on. At night it retracts into the rock and you can hardly see it. The base in on the sand and when it expands it is 5" from the surface and yep, 2 foot across.

I'm about to redo my rockwork and want to attempt corals again at some point but this anenome takes up half my tank. It's awesome, but there are limits. I'm thinking of either getting a carpet anenome or replacing it with a small one in the sump. But even if I replace it with a smaller one it's going to get huge again?

It's a Sebae by the way, boring and brown but bloody huge. :p

I could maybe make a small column for it and place the base high up.

Any ideas on how to tackle this situation? I see all these awesome tanks with pics of a tiny nem on the sand not interfering with anything. I have a 340g tank and an anenome lives in half of it. :mad2:

Anemones can move themselves, so placing them where you want them does not always work. Sebaes also like to dwell on the sand bed

A healthy, thriving sebae is pretty rare, so you are doing a great job with it. If it were mine, it would be the centerpiece of my tank, but I am partial to clowns and anemones and maybe not so objective

I'll see if I can find a charger for my Cybershot - only been without it for 18 months. I don't think it's a sebae. It's just a standard Long Tentacle Anemone. Looked like a sebae when I got it. Shame this anenome is so dull looking (brown).

Here's a pic I took with my phone last week. Gives you an idea but expands up a few more inches and is touching the leather on the right normally.

It looks just like mine and mine is an H Crispa.
It's also taken over my tank which makes me happy. Great centerpiece and no maintenance.

I wouldn't replace it with a carpet if you don't want a large anemone. My carpet is probably 14" across now. They get much bigger..

That Crispa is at least whitish. Mine is a dull brown. And a 14" carpet would be awesome - at least they have colour. That Crispa is massive though - looks similar in size. And you're lucky it stays near the bottom.
