charcoal

I was given a container of charcoal but there is nothing specifying how much I should use? I have a 75g reef. I have a media bag that I have been putting 1/2 cup in. Not sure if that is to much or
not enough.

It's hard to give a definitive answer, because there are so many variables, but three tablespoons per 50 gallons seems to be a reasonable compromise.

It has to be used actively in a reactor or canister though.

Far be it from a manufacturer to recommend using more of their product than you actually need :)

This link has a lot of info.

Sorry it is Black Diamond Activated Carbon! Same thing is'nt it?

Not quite the same thing. Activated carbon has been specially treated using a process I'm really not familiar with, so don't try putting Kingsford charcoal in your tank. The good news is, you really can't use too much. How much is enough is probably a subject of debate. Just make sure you change it out at least monthly so you don't get a build-up of detritus that will start to decompose on you.
