Cheap RO Water at Shop N Save - Castle Shannon

The Shop N Save in Castle Shannon (and probably others) has a Glacial water machine at the end of one of their aisles. It says the water is filtered with reverse osmosis, carbon, and a micron filter. Best part is it's only 39 cents per gallon, compared to 50 cents or so at Burtons where I used to get it.

So for those of us that haven't invested in an RO/DI Unit, this is an affordable alternative.

Still get a hand held TDS meter. You don't know how well they keep up with filter replacement if they do it at all.

True, but I have no doubt it's better than my tap water, which for some reason has had a strange odor to it lately.

I agree with the TDS meter. Someone told me that Burton's TDS read 139 and Burton's thought it was good. To me your buying half filtered water. Yes, it's better than tap but why buy water for .50 cents a gallon there when you can buy else where with a TDS reading always under <10 (and you all know who that is LOL)

Bring some over when you come by next time, I have a TDS meter, we can test it.

Not sure how they store it but back when i bought it the place stored it in copper tanks. (A hometown store in indiana)

I dont know how common that is now but just a warning

If I was that worried about the water, I'd just buy one of those units on Ebay that go for around $150. May be more expensive initially, but a heck of a lot cheaper over the long run. Safer too as long as they work as advertised.

Before I bought my RO/DI unit, I picked up water at Wally World in Butler for .33 cents/gal. TDS was always at 3.

Ray, thanks, I will do that.

And FYI, I have used straight tap water for 2 years and have never had any issues. I have noticed a definite odor from my tap lately, so that's why I switched over. You RO/DI guys can criticize all ya want, but if you need proof that tap water works, I am it. And assuming I do a 10 gallon water change twice a month, it would take me 2 years to buy enough of the Shop N Save water to equal what I would pay for a decent RO/DI system, so I will stick with it. And if it has a TDS of 139 and my tap has a TDS of 150, then I am still better off.

I used well water in my tanks for years without any issues. Some people just have good water..

But then i moved to PA.. spend the money on and RO unit
