Cheato in tank

I had the same thing happen in a 40b. My only solution was to swap rocks that had it on with ones from my big tank and my yellow tang and coral beauty did the work. I had calurpa as well. I would never put a refugium on a small tank every again for the reason.

Id just stay the course and keep at it. Must have had a piece or two you couldn't see. Nothing really eats it (except a rare specimin here or there) and blackouts would probly hurt your corals before it hurt the algae.

Alternatively, you could try to drop nutrients so low the algae just dies, but that'd be an ordeal.

Good luck!

gand- the Chaetomorpha is in your big clownfish display aquarium or somewhere else?

You don't have a Foxface or Sailfin Tang in there?

With that much macro you may need to tear it down and add new rock unfortunately.

I agree. You don't need new rock. I am betting a larger zebrasoma or foxface will tear through the remains after you manually remove a bunch of it.

One of the easier aspects of keeping a large tank is you have a ton of herbivore options. A tang or foxface constantly graze the rocks and they'll take care of macro before it even has a chance to get started.

It's very challenging to diagnose aquarium problems online but I would be remiss not to admit the current state of this aquarium wasn't predicatable in advance.
That's NOT to say it's unattractive. Many people LIKE macroalgae in their displays.
To limit /defeat algae/macroalgae growth I would suggest if this 180 display is still on the automatic water change system STOP IT.
I see no reason for auto water change on this aquarium (unless there are some sensitive corals I'm not seeing) and auto change can (and probably IS) fueling Chaeto growth.
Add a Foxface.
Be advised that ridding the aquarium of Chaetomorpha might open the door for another LESS DESIRABLE algae to proliferate.

That powerhead on the left would be better off 10" below surface.

The rock stack is very nice.
