Cheato question

I got some cheato yesterday and placed in my refugium, that has live rock in it. I was goggling cheato and came across an article that stated cheato is suppose to stay in a tumbling motion and they recommended no rock/obstacles, where it was kept. Is this correct? I also spread the ball out a little bit, is this bad?

I just turn mine every couple of days, and pulling the ball apart helps promote more growth

I also pull it apart a little, I turn it every now and then, as long as there is flow you will be fine
