Check out Klaus's new badboy prototype

now, lets see if he borrowed ATI's best idea of all, an affordable price!!

i definately DO want one though...:)

Oh they are affordable, just not to the average hobbyist. Unless he targets that group as customers, I don't see his prices coming down anytime soon.

"I don't see his prices coming down anytime soon."

That's ok, we have ATI and don't forget , the Chinese knockoffs which are good at copying....lol

clownnrnd, in the bottom of the base plate, there is a small hole in the center. Thats the hole Im talking about possibly being a pressure relief hole.

well he did a fine job of immitating ati/others here, they had the alloy mesh wheel idea first, and controllable skimmer pump idea first as well, and hmmm, go figure, the ati bm300 has a cone as well.
im not saying it isnt a great, awesome looking skimmer, and incredible build quality, im just saying that everybody in this industry borrows good ideas from other companies/people, as klaus has obviously done here.

He didnt immitate anyone. True, the way ATI does the bubble plate does allow for the plate to be positioned lower in the skimmer, which helps with height. But the ATI design was a copy of a design by one of Klaus's friends for Fauna-Marin...
http://www.meerwasser-technik.de/
Which Klaus had a hand in developing actually. So all he is doing is making his own version of his own skimmer which just took him a while to get 'perfect'.

ATI has started with the controllable pump just this year. Klaus has been working on it for about 2 years already.

And I dont know what you mean by ATI having a cone as well... nothing shaped like the BKs here...

Well before people start shooting hear say as facts (Like it has been already done so far) i think a duck should be called a duck.
If klaus can keep prices modest i will def look at one, Till then its just eye candy for me and many others.

I agree with Hahn,I've read a lot of posts made by Klaus, and he has way to much pride in his products to copy other company's designs.

So Hahn when are you going to find a stock pump equivalent to the RD2 pump?I did find a 1000gph 12v dc pump for $30.Just not sure how many watts it is.It said 12volts at 3.2amps,1000gph at 0 head, with a 1 3/8" outlet. No specs on the input though. They also had a 700gph and 500gph model as well.

Has anyone found a way to buy the Chinese knock-offs? Seems like the Chinese can get away with blatant patent/trademark infringement whereas imports from most other countries would be quickly sued for such things.

The Chinese knockoffs are supposedly to be available in the states soon.I looked over there website, and the skimmers look identical, but not sure about what pump they use as it was kind of hard to tell by the pics.

well, with the Sicce pumps being sold for $100 each, wouldnt cost much to throw them on a good body!

Edit to add: Itll be interesting to see how the wider bubble plate works out.

While the base of the plate is wider, and will allow for initially less turbulance, it will be erased at the top of the guide, and right before the water exits the skimmer. The ATI's have the stronger turbulance right at the plate, but it is very calm after that, while this one will have all the chaos occuring higher up.

I will say, though, with that design, there wont be the same slow-flow area that allows detritus to settle in parts of the BM250 -- something I hadnt heard about or like, being a bare bottom tank.

Heres the link to the Chinese version of the BK.
http://www.aquaexcel.cn/En_index.asp

As far as when there suppose to come to the states, who knows.A couple of guys on the zeolit forums were saying that they had spoken to the reps and that they stated they were going to be importing them here.

please send me info on this 12v/3.2A 1000gph pump. It sounds interesting... that would be a max 38.4 watt pump, and with a 1-3/8" outlet... thats not bad at all. Do you have a link? If its saltwater safe, this could be a great pump to mod. I would be willing to 'try one out for the team'.

easy there hahn :)
well im no german skimmer history pro, but that's not really true, G.Klewinski actually made that skimmer in conjunction with ATI back in 1999, they collabarated together. i seriously doubt klaus had anything to do with it at that point...it wasnt until later when fauna marin knocked off that design as well (with klewinski's appoval) and wanted to buy and use the red dragon pumps that klaus was involved. please correct me if im wrong:)

either that or i need to accept the fact that klaus single handedly invented every cool skimmer idea there ever was, and get over myself...lol

and word on the street is that the bm300 has a cone shape body as well, at least internally if not external, have not seen pic yet...you??

Well, the ATI cone is going to be something like the ATB or Korallen Zucht Skimmers. This is a bit different as you can see. The ATI and others are more like a large parking cone.

koraltek, the first design of that BM style skimmer was for fauna-marin. ATI used the same body, called the Twister M. Back before ATI went bankrupt (the first time) fauna had this skimmer.

Right now, Fauna is making a new skimmer as well.
