Checking Temperature

What do you use to monitor your temperature. I don't want to spend a fortune on a controller or anything. Right now I use a Coralife digital thermometer, but sometimes I question its accuracy.

I have two of them as well and have found that they tend to be off by about 1 degree F, but I figure that shouldn't be much of a problem.

I have one of the digital coralifes and an Aquacontroler JR. Lets compare temps at this moment (both sensors are in the sump).
Coralife=78.4
Aqua Jr=79.8

Bit of a difference wonder which one is right....

They're good. But I keep a cheap strip thermometer stuck to my sump in case the main thermometer goes bad. Heat has killed a lot of tanks, and the lethal temperature starts at 85.

Ideal temperature varies by what species you keep, but I keep mine 78-80 just in case there's a problem that sends the temp marginally higher.

If your curious on accuracy, you can check the thermometers....Take a cup of ice and fill with water...let it sit a couple minutes and check the temp...it should be 32.

mine hovers right around 80 most of the time except winter when the house cools good and then I get to 78 overnight. I did ger up to 84 about a week ago cause my cooling fans had clogged screens. I turned them round so they blow into the lights and hood, and now the temp is very stable. I use a stick on thermometer and have checked with digitals when necessary.
