Chemi-Clean--> does it work?

I don't like the idea of dosing the entire tank with antibiotics, erythromycin in this case, but it worked for me when I tried it. Be sure to keep the oxygen up.

There are no antibiotics in Chemi Clean. Erthromycin in in Red Slime Remover not Chemi Clean. It is just an oxidizer.

If you go with the maxijet aeration I would hook up an airline to the little intake nubby on the output and get a venturi action vs. just stirring the surface.

So there are two products, Chemi-Clean: Red Slime remover with the antibiotics (blue/red package) and just plain "Chemi Clean" in a white bottle without antibiotics, right? Until today I had never seen the plain white bottle version.

Thanks

Yes, Chemi Clean comes in a small white plastic bottle for about $20.00. There is no antibiotic in it. Red Slime remover (with antibiotics) comes in a small box, I think it's red.

wow, I have started quite the thread here, glad to see so much action on it

well I guess I will also try it and see, and will post results when through, ...

SO, I just spent the last two days treating my 29gal with chemi clean and I must say that it seems to have worked. The tank is not 100% clear yet, but it definitely stopped the stuff from growing and killed what was there. Now I'm just going to keep my eye on things over the next few days to see if any of it starts to creep back. If it does I'm going to immediately treat it again just to be sure I got it all. Overall I'm pretty happy with the results and I didn't lose any livestock at all.

I'm glad to hear of your success! Did it peel off and float on the surface like big snotty boogers? If so, SUCCESS!! Now when you follow through with the water change, I'd double it to 40% and continue to oxygenate for at least another week. And to insure continued success, a little more water movement will inhibit the bacteria to return. Tin:bum:Man

well, it didn't actually peel off and float to the surface. It actually just kind of shriveled up and faded. Its still there in some spots, but it looks dead. Thats why I'm going to keep a close watch on it and make sure it doesn't start growing back. If I see any signs of new growth I'm going to immediately repeat the treatment again. I wish I could add another power head, but I'm completely out of space and power out lets! Thanks for the tips though!

I used Chemi Clean about a month ago and I am having a couple of problems. My hairy mushrooms appear to be melting away one or two at a time and my GSP appears to be having some mat degeneration. I followed the instructions exactly as what was on the bottle. I am very religious with my water changes. I do a 10 gal water change every 7 days on my 75 gal tank. All my other parameters are in line(ph,ammo, nitrite, nitrate). I have used the Chemi Clean before without any ill effects but this time I am having a few issues.
