Where in Chicago are you going to be BTW? And what are you looking for? We're one of those places where there isn't one great store for everything, but depending of if you're looking for a selection of fish, dry goods, coral, or super premium rare coral, there are different places to visit.
Looking more for coral and fish. The more unusual the better. I'm setting up 2 - 337 gal tanks for the hospital in town and would like to find some nice stuff. I liked Old Town, because they seemed to have more unusual livestock. We went somewhere North of Chicago, I think it was called Oceans Floor and he had some nice coral and inverts for great prices. I will NEVER go to Deep Reef Aquatics again. Made a special trip all the way over there, after calling to let them know I was coming, to pick up a Red Headed wrasse. When I got there, they had the wrasses packed into little tanks and said the breaker had gone out 2 days earlier on one of the systems so the ammonia had spiked, and they had to put them all together. All the fish were stressed and I told them how upset I was that they didn't tell me that before I came over. Too make a long story shorter, they told me that they would guarantee the fish I bought, ended up spending $380.00 on different wrasses, all of them died within the week and they would'nt do anything, besides jerk me around!!! I could never treat someone like that.

Not sure where to tell you to go for fish on that one. I've heard Living Seas is good but I've never been. For corals, it might be worth a trip to Schaumburg to check out Advanced Aquatics and Beyond the Reef. Reef Depot in Lemont (www.reefdepot.net) is excellent for corals and has a website but you have to make an appointment as it's run out of a basement. In my opinion the best place for coral is another basement run place but I can't tell you the name (ReefCentral will remove it if I write their name here). They're in Brookfield though.
!!!! I almost forgot, you're coming in from Iowa, does that mean you'll be coming in on 88? If so, check out Rod's Reef. It's another call ahead place (but those are the best right?) but he's world renowned for his clown breeding program and he's an all around great guy. Also, he sells Rod's Food which is some amazing stuff and is well regarded in our area. www.rods-reef.com

CARAGOL... Thanks for the info...I'll check those out. I did stop at Rod's Reef last time we came over and he was a very nice guy. I need to talk to him about raising some clowns for me. I have a wild caught black onyx female that paired up with a black male.

Try Sea Schor on the North side in Buffalo Grove. I get there on a regular basis and they have very good sps and occassionally fish selection. Their 500 gallon display is worth the trip alone.
