chiller in the basement, what pump to use?

Can you tell I'm setting up a tank with all these posts lately? hehe =)

My chiller is in the basement, on the floor. Basement is about 10 feet, and my sump is about half a foot above that.

The sump is drilled with two 1" holes halfway up, under the water line.

Since it's kind of a "closed loop" will I be getting any gravity induced head loss?

If I want 600gph going through the chiller, could I just factor in a few of the plumbing losses I might encounter and ignore the fact that this water has to travel 22 feet?

So your going from the tank to the chiller and back up? Equal drop to rise? You shouldn't get much if any gravity induced head loss, just friction head loss. 600gpm should probably do it. I'd set up a test and count your GPM at the output just to be safe.

yeah, the holes where it leaves and returns are exactly level with each other.

that's good news, I won't need some super pump =P

I am going to mount the pump next to the chiller externally in the basement, I'm guessing since gravity should/will drop water down there, it will be ok? Or should the pump sit in the sump itself?

Next to the chiller if it's OK to be air cooled. Some submersiables don't run well out of water (too hot). Some people have reported problems using Mags out fot he water, but I have never had a problem. If you submerge it, you adding heat

Yeah, I don't have a pump yet, but I'll be sure to get one that runs out of water. Maybe one of those fancy Eheims.

Eheim all the way Best pumps I've ever owned. I have a 10 year old one that has all OG parts and still runs flawlessly :lol: Can't say that about any other pump, well, besides Sequence

haha yeah =) Thanks for all the help

I figured it was a long weekend, took a break from work and I'm trying to put as much of this beast together as I can.

Custom tanks are really difficult. I've spent like an hour spray painting a bunch of fittings black.

I have to drill some holes in the floor soon for my chiller plumbing into the basement, that's gonna be nuts.

I'm just afraid I'm going to get some kind of leak when I water test =P

Anyway, after I do most of the chiller work (have to wait for a the pump) I then have to attack my Ca Reactor. I have no clue what goes where.
