I've been running a 1hp UMI for over 10 years now and it's about to bite the dust. Does anyone here have any recommendations? Besides unit efficiency, customer service is of great importance. Thanks.

The ground loop would work and be the cheapest to run... and you would only have to have it 8 feet down... but the cost might be a little high...
Can i ask why you don’t want to go back to a UMI?

I might. I've gotten a decades worth of nearly trouble free service from the unit I have now. But since the company moved to Canada, the time and trouble of getting parts here has become much more of a problem. Just looking for alternatives that won't be held up in customs; certainly not UMIs' fault.

By the way, the logistics of going with a ground loop system would be a nightmare for me. Thanks anyway.

I use a Pacific Coast 1/2 hp. I used it on a 535 and now a 325. Works well. One problem I had is that it overheated. The housing, although slotted, did not allow enough heat to escape. The wiring was not a thick enough guage and the switch began to melt and blew a fuse. They immediatly responded and sent me 5 fuses so I had spares. My solution to the heat problem was to remove the housing. It has been fine ever since. Over 3 yrs. in use.
