Im gonna start a group buy for LEDS From China. These are not CREE's they are the leds Maidia used and the ones that are on The Tampa bay reef club Forum on RC. Many thanks to Mai and TBRC for Bringing this to us.

Anyone interested? I will not ship leds to people. Pickup from Chicago Logan Square and prepayment required. but to estimate shipping I need Quantities from people and ill get the shipping cost. I will get a small amount myself to test these leds on a small tank before I decide on my other tanks.

Thanks
skunk

I just started doing research on LED lighting using the same threads you mention above. I am not quite ready to pull the trigger today but if this group buy takes a few weeks to develop that could change. I would want 80 whites, 40 RB and 12 regular blues ( I think the same price as whites). I am still deciding on the driver issue. What are you thinking about for driver?

I'd be interested but I'd rather you ship to me once you got the order. I TOTALLY understand why you don't want to do that but if you change your mind or need someone to get the quatities needed LMK.

Same here about the shipping issue, for the quantities I need, (7x each LED, one spare of each just in case...) it would be cheaper to just throw in an extra couple dollars for postage than spend the gas to drive out there and pick up....

Dont need the 60° lenses (would get 80° ones thou), and the drivers you listed are just too big for a 12x led setup, id need a smaller dimmable model...

Just curious what are the individual costs on the LED's if you dont buy in lots of 100, or are you required to buy 100x at a time?

Goofy & GF3, my office is in Schaumburg. If I decide to buy, I could pick up yours from skunk.

I'm still trying to wrap my head around what driver configuration to use.

I dont want to deal with mailing stuff. Im sure you guys can work it out. if you do combine your order and send it to me as one order so its easier to keep track. i can hold this buy until firday or sat. or when everyone that wants in is in. I think i need at least 100 of each type of led and optics. we will have that min. so you can order as little as you like.

Does the manufacturer give you MTBF figures for these lights? Contrary to popular belief, LEDs do not last forever... I am not quite convinced that they will save money over the long run...

i found this hopefully the mods will allow it.

they just got back to me.

Dear Abel ,

Lifespan of led is 50000hours.
The decay is 3%-5% within 1000hours.

Datasheets as attached for reference.

i got the pdf but i dont know how to share it. is there a pdf hosting site?

How do you figure the number of leds you need?

Is it watt for watt? I run 5 39 watt T5s that are over driven with icecap ballasts. Do I just figure 195 watts? Anyone know the output of over driven 39 watt T5s?

I am interested in this also, I may be looking for something around the 10,000k to swap out some of the 18,000k I have. The tank looks great, but my spectrum mutes out the coralline colors. Since I love the amount of coralline I have I kinda want to see it a bit more.

Also I have an 85w driver that failed today after 3 full days of use. I have a few spares on hand and will swap it out today. I just thought I should share.
