Me too!!!!

I was looking at some of these LEDS online.
One place had one that was 3W and was $159 and the same light
but with 1W leds was $199.99. Why would the 1W be more expensive than the 3W?

With the 1w LEDs there is 120 of them with the 3w LEDs there is only 40. The other 80 LEDs is the only thing I can think of.

Bit the bullet and ordered the 120 watt 20k LEDs from aquariumleds.com. I run 250 watt radiums under a 30x30 cube and needed a new bulb. Rather than spending 90 bucks on the radium bulb I went with LEDs ($160).

I think the hardware is more or less the same. I went with mine because the have brand name led bulbs (bridge lux). I should be getting them this Friday. Will setup this weekend and hopefully post pics.

Looking forward to your thoughts on this light. I've almost pulled the trigger on the same one a few times, but really want to see some more real world usage before buying. Please share your experiences. Thanks!!

I'm looking at aquariumleds.com I'm happy to see a one year warranty.

I'm looking at the

120 Watt Aquarium LED 14K 1 Watt LED

and the

120 Watt Aquarium LED 14K 3 Watt LED

OK so the 1 watt light has 119 1w LEDS and the 3W has 40 3w LEDS

The PAR on both LEDS is the same at 2" 12" and 24"

The only difference between the two is on the intensity of the LEDS themselves.

The 1w is LED Intensity >80Lm

The 3w is LED Intensity >240Lm

but the lumens are the same at 9520Lm

I've read that the only difference between the 1w and 3w is that the 3w penetrate deeper, but the PAR is the same so how is that so?

Even with everything else being the same would the 1w be a brighter light with 119 LEDS?

I will use it on my 24g Aquapod so I won't need the light to penetrate deep, but I don't want it to be too bright, so I don't know which one to choose.

What do you guys recommend?

I have the 14k 3w led fixture and love it.

I have been looking into switching over to leds from mh for my 210 upgrade. I like what I am seeing with the eshine 4g lighting. I think its their newer line. You have complete control over options. The offer all cree, bridgelux and epistar led choices and 30, 60 and 90 degree optic. The pricing I have seen is super reasonable. They also have a light called aqua master which uses leds and t5 that is reasonable too.

On the LED lights from aquariumleds.com can you buy a dimmer from Home Depot and dim these LEDS or will it not work and why?

Just picked these up this weekend, should have them here on Monday. Two 120 watt 20K units for under 360.00? Cant beat that. i emailed prior and they said if i am not satisfied i can return for a refund. my tank is not set up yet, but i am going to throw them on my bro-in-laws for now and see how it goes. Mine are going on a 46g, its only 20" deep so i am pretty certain i should be well covered!

does anyone out there have an opinion on led lighting systems direct from china? when i look at the stats of alot of these light panels it shows some pretty positive looking numbers, for example i just looked on alibaba and one seller is selling a 120x1w led panel with bridgelux/epistar chips. 60 14k bright white and 60 455nm blue leds.

i have heard about cheap build quality and low par numbers but i wonder how much of this is really true on a consistent basis. there are always lower quality systems out there but when you can get lets say this panel for 189$ vs the ecoray 112 with nearly the same numbers for 579$ you have to ask if the difference is that real or just a bit of hype. i would appreciate any input from anyone out there with any experience with these lights. thanks everybody

I purchased 2-60 watt Crees directly from China and can say nothing but good about them. They are the same as the ones being sold in the US for often twice the price. I paid $185 each plus shipping. I've seen them advertised for a few dollars less lately.

Kevin,

Did you get the same ones i did from aquariumleds.com? I emailed them ask specifically asked where these are made because their description is a bit vague, he said they are made overseas, but they run each unit for several hours before they are sold. Please post pics when you get yours set up.

No, I got the one that have 55 3 watt LED's, driven at 2 watts each.

I think the one you got are 40 3 watt LED's, driven at 3 watts each.

:headwalls: I'm trying to decide which one to order... Too many choices. Do you know what brand leds are in the fixture you ordered?

it depends on what you are growing…if these really do replace a 250w MH then you probably would do fine with LPS and softies with some SPS towards the top.

I emailed aquariumleds.com and told them that it would be nice if someone from their company could shed some light on these lights, i.e. examples of growth attained using them, how their customer support and warranty works after purchase, etc. I thought it would be a nice show of commitment to the product if someone came on and was willing to answer questions about it, here was the response:

"Hi there
Thank you for the heads up, I have been selling leds for about 4 years now. I started with leds for growing plants and naturally moved into this. Do you think they would mind if a vender comes in and talks about their product? I thought on forums this was a little taboo and it is why I stayed out of it."

I wrote back and told him that as long as it wasn't a sales pitch that I thought it would benefit everyone, and would be nice to know that they stood behind the product enough to jump in on a thread like this, especially since service after the buy is such a big factor here. I told them that I would post the reply and they could see how the forum responded. I am pretty glad I bought these lights (even though I haven't gotten them yet) I have received timely responses each time I have emailed.

I just heard back from aquariumleds.com, I told him there is concern about support for an item made in China:

"They are not dropped shipped from China, I bring them over into Canada (where I am from), I test each one before they come out, and I have spare parts if something does go wrong. Also since I work directly with the manufacture if a unit is defective it is easily replaced by me and I get a credit from the manufacture (prevents people from having to deal with China directly which can be a huge risk / hassle)

for your question, the benefit of the 3W is that is has a higher par rating at deeper depths but the 1W ones scatter the light around the tank better. That is the main difference."
