Definitely try to get intermixed whites and blues like that. If you add other colors, evenly spread them across the fixture.

To fix my fixture for now, I just put electrical tape over the reds on the side, and half of the blues for now. I also took the optics off. They are loose and aren't glued.

When I install Bridgelux leds in the pattern above, I'm going to lose having separate white/blue channels.

This is the light with no optics and taped over leds over my cichlid tank. Still too blue for my liking at 100%, but much better blended.

I just got mine and plugged them in after 5 seconds I heard a small electrical pop and the fans stopped working. Has anyone ever had that happen?

Bahzzard ..
Given all your reviews on this. You thinking. No greens?
You think optics 60 will. Ause to much spotting of red led . ?

bhazard what do you think of the brightness without the len's? also is it easier enough to switch to bridgelux leds? could you take pics if you open it up please.

Nice frontosa I will always love cichlids

Color popping

Hmm what do yiour guys think should be the primary
white wavelengh in a fixture?

10k, 14k, 6500?

I'm seeing different pictures.. some look great at 10-12k some at 6500
I think a mix of all 3 is best but wha should be the primary?

I'm not sure what looks best. I like cool whites but 6500 should help
pop some colors.

I was thinking 15x 10k, 5x 14k, 5x 6500.. I want to be comfortable with
the layout before I send his much. Need to buy 4 units (72 inch tank)

Personally I wouldn't get the 14k ones cause they have blue in them and you are going to use royal blues anyway so you might have an overpowering blueness haha. In the fixture I'm getting and my current one I just have a mix of 6500k and 10k with a few more 6500k than 10k. The 6500k have abit of red in them as well so that way I don't need to use red LEDs. I actually use two pink ones in my current one.

I got the new galaxy s3 and it has a panorama style camera option on it so I tried it out on my tank worked well and this phone Actually takes very accurate photos to what the leds actually look like... this is my 65 gallon with a d120 unit with 30 blues 21 whites and 4 violets also running a reef brite

This is with just the blue switch on its a tad bluer then the pic leads on but its also not as blue as most because my blue switch has some whites to break up the blue Windex look cause I have a reef brite for that look as a final light. This is 19 blue 4 white 4 violet

It's really, really hard to judge color temps given for leds by each company like 14k 10k 6500k, because each type of led the companies use are completely different from one another.

My Cree 3500-7000k XT-E whites I used in my DIY fixture, will look completely different than a Epistar in that same range. I prefer neutral and warm whites along with cool whites, with twice the amount of Royal Blues. Throw in some 420nm actinic violets and a red here and there, and it looks much better than CW:RB. Jury is still out on Greens and other colors.

Why not buy one or two first to make sure you like them and then get the rest?

Anyone see these on amazon? http://http://www.amazon.com/TaoTronics-TT-AL01-Aquarium-Output-Ratio-/dp/B0058RXPOS/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1343521961&sr=8-3&keywords=led+reef+lighting

I really want to grow SPS, and plan on my 90 gallon tank being SPS dominant....have any opinion on if if 2 of these will be able to grow SPS? Or should I go with eshine?

If the link doesn't work go to amazon and type in Taotronics reef LED's. Thanks!

There are better options available, as those aren't dimmable.

This company is my personal favorite. You can customize whatever led colors you want, and they are dimmable. Cheaper too. They will grow everything, including SPS.

I like the new Eshine light too, but it is much more expensive because of the Crees and built in controller.

Hoity I would be interested in the layout Twilight send you. I took my fixture apart to see how I could re-arrange the LEDs. Unfortunately, they are mounted on a PCB and the dimmer layout is fixed. I am going to contact Lyn today to see if there are other PCB options that would allow for a better mixture between dimmer 1 and 2.

Sent you a pm
Cheers
