I'm getting ready to order (3) IT2040 Units today. I want the lights to be approximately 12-15K when everything is on and still simulate the dawn/dust and high noon using the (2) Dimmers. Any suggestions and/or comments would be greatly appreciated!

Use 450nm instead of 440 and 460. Use close to a 2:1 blue to neutral/warm white ratio. You have too many whites. 660nm red is more effective than 630.
 
bhazard, what do you think of this layout. I know you don't know the actual spectrum of the whites but what do you think of using 3700k, 4100k and 6500k?

would you have used the 4100k if you knew they were available? and i saw you said you would get rid of the higher k whites so that is what i did. should I add more 3700k?

oh and yeah I dont need the moonlights so I stuck the violets on there. thought maybe I could run them at close to 100% since i know they get overpowered by the other leds.

Violets on the moonlight channel wouldn't be good. The moonlight channel tops out at 10% brightness, which is very low for an already dim led like 420nm.

I might have used 4100k instead yes, but the 10k leds aren't bad. Since we don't know its spectrum yet, I didn't see the need for it with 3500k already there.

You would need to supplement with red and some form of cyan/green if you used 10k for all the whites. I'm going to test by adding cyan and red leds into my fixture eventually to see if I like the look better, even with warm whites installed.
 
ok, thanks for the reply. That being said do you think my mixture of whites are good or should I drop or add any?

I spoke to sunny and asked her if the moonlights could be turned on to 100%, equal to the brightness of the other two switches, and she told me yes. I will have to email her again but your unit only goes up to 10%?

I'd have to check again. Visually it looks like it reaches 100%, but the other channels shut off at 10%. I guess there is something going on that allows the moonlight channel to work from 10% to 1%.

Ratio looks good to me, although it is unknown right now if 4100k or 3500k provides more usable spectrum or better visuals.

I think the ratio came out near perfect myself. There may be a little too many whites by 2 or 3 leds, but it allows a nice high noon yet still 14k look at 100%. If you manually adjust the blues and whites, you can hit 10k/20k by lowering one of the channels.

I'll be adding in reds and cyans to test soon to see if they are needed for better visual appearance. Evergrow doesn't use Cyan so I had to get them elsewhere.

In some ways, this light and ratio looks better than my DIY Cree, and in other ways the DIY Cree looks better. I like them both.

Why don't you use just 65K instead of mixing 35K and 10K?

The original intent was to use 3500k to provide red spectrum normally missing from cool white leds, and 6500k to provide the blue/green spectrum missing from cool white leds without needing to use red and green separate leds.

It worked, and you can definitely use a combo like this for better color compared to just cool white/royal blue, but I believe separate reds and cyans may provide that extra little kick in color to really stand out. "Disco" is reduced and only noticeable within shadowed areas inside rocks/caves without separate colored leds. Its a choice you have to make, red spots on rocks with slightly better color, or no spots with slightly less color.

Cyan and Red are the color changers in my DIY fixture. Although my DIY Cree/Luxeon fixture looks great without my red/cyan/violet string on, with the string on there is slightly more color, noticeable mostly in my zoanthids.

I upgrade the whites to 8000k because cree cool white has a more cold spectrum than Bridgelux

I switch two Violet in 380 actinic.

Some doubts...

Actinic and violet are on only with the whites.
I think i have few Royal Blue and too much blue

The Radeon does not have a very good ratio of leds. If anything, mimic the Maxspect Razor and add a few reds and maybe green (i prefer cyan). 380nm actinic seems more harmful than useful. Stick with 420nm.

You also have entirely too much cool blue, and are just adding more blue on top of it by using cool whites. You need to stay around 1:1 or 3:2 blue to white with cool whites, or it will be entirely too blue.
 
Ill be getting two more lights soon for my 120 upgrade ... I'd like mine to be a tad bluer prob more of a 18-20k look ...
The d120 I run now has 30 royal blues 21 whites 10k-12k i believe ..and 4 violets

I'm thinking about 35 rbs 17 whites 3 violets for this one one to get me more towards 20k .... what do you think bhaz?
