chinese led lights

Bhazard, in your opinion, which one is better? D120 Cree, the new one Cree, or a6 with Cree if it's available? I'm getting them for my 180g and 375g. I'm all about par.

Thanks

Neither. The Bridgelux unit will end up having almost as much PAR, because it uses more leds to make up for it. The Crees the chinese use aren't the newest gen, and they are only about 30% more efficient tops.

You will start to see the benefits of Cree when you drive them higher at 1200-1300mah. These fixtures would only drive them to half that.

I'm confused. This is the format Evergrow has for the for their DIY layout.

You think the columns will not be able to be on the same dimmer?

They may have two PCB boards to choose from. One with rows like that, and one that alternates. The one I have in the new light is one that alternates.

I believe the IT2040 alternates LEDs for dimmers, which probably gives you a better color spread. The D120 dimmers are on columns.

Wish I could get the IT2040, but right now the D120s are pushing my budget.

I've seen the alternating board on the d120 too. The one with rows is probably the one with the 30/25 layout, where the alternating one is 28/27. You can choose either one, so that's a plus.

hi bhazard. Thank you for the great work. Assuming that color is all we want (with the warmer profile 10k to 14k look), where would the red ones (or any other color that you think can help) go that would provide the best color rendition?

Thanks

Just spread colors evenly across the fixture. I didn't do that one time, and my tank looked like those old 3D Red/Blue glasses. Don't do that. lol

Comments/Review:
Customer service from both of my reps was fantastic, they answered all my questions promptly and tolerated me even though I changed my mind every day. A+ for both of these guys (Ada vacationed near end of discussion, Brian took over)

Product review:
Well packaged, exact spectrum I ordered. Shipped and arrived earlier than ETA even as a custom/new item they designed for me. All units arrived in perfect working condition.

Does Evergrow have a fixture like this? SAme color spectrum? I want moonlight but do NOT want to have to manually dim the fixture to get moonlights. This one has separate power to the moonlights so I can use my RKE+ to control that. So lights are two switches, 1 white/ 1 blue, then one more for moon.
All help is appreciated as my current PC are overheating my tank bad. 83-88!!!:angryfire: Thanks, Ty

The test picture seems perfect,we'd like to have a try.

Bhazard, this information has been extremely helpful. I'm building a 36x36x24 rimless cube (it also has a glass top that sits hidden below the rim). It will be LPS dominated with any SPS in the center or top.

Would one IT2040 work for my tank? If so, should I go with the 90 degree or 120 degree optics? I saw your picture of the light sitting on the glass top, but I have room to sit it or hang it, which ever would be better.

Ok. Another question. What is the use of orange leds.? My lfs has them on their coralife led systems and I was windering if the have any need or just for looks too? Any thoughts? Anyone try them here yet? Does evergrow carry the orange led bulbs? Thanks guys...

Mike :)

Bhazard, i'm very confused...
Razor template, Reefbreders, your...

Could i ask you a layout based on yours but a little more blue? (15k - 16k maybe a right trade-off between bluishness and color rendering?)

Thank you.

Marco

PS: i would like avoid the disco effect given by the red and green led

The red and green leds don't really give "disco". Shadowed areas within rocks still have some colored spotting even with my layout. Using 2 reds and greens wont make things much worse at all.

Use Reefbreeders' layout if you want a little more blue.

36" is what one side of my 120g tank is. One will work, but you'll have to hang it and stay with 90 degree optics.

Awesome thanks Bhazard. How high would I need to hang it to cover the 36x36 tank? Would I still be able to keep SPS high on the rocks and maybe some SPS/clams dead center on the sand bed that's 24" deep? Then I guess I could always add another fixture in the future if I get brave enough to go full blown SPS ( definitely at least a year away).

I must say these seem like a great alternative to the Vegas or Razor. I would need two of each those just to "light" up my 36x36 tank.

The 36" width makes it tough. Clams will be fine dead center, and SPS will be fine too. It seems like 2 fixtures would look weird, and 1 fixture won't cover everything evenly. You could always order a second one if needed.

With 90 degree optics, hang them 6-10" off the water.

Vegas are a waste of money, but I like the Razors personally.

I also have a 36" tank but it's only 10" in depth (shallow tank) Would I be good with SPS and Clams in other spots in the tank or would I have to stick just in the middle as well

This is the layout

I change the moonlight to 450 instead of 480.

Sunny has to talk with engineers for the idea to put 60° lens on the border and 90° lens in the center of the layout to best fit my 17 cube.

Bhazard, you are right. Dealing with 36" length and 36" width makes it real difficult. I was actually starting to lean towards getting the 160 Razor until I saw this thread. Do you think I would be better off with one Razor for now then add another if I need it since two of the Evergrow may look weird? Would I need the 160 or would the 120 work? I would love to do DIY to fit the perfect light for my application, but I'm a little gun shy. I would almost rather pay someone to build it for me.

These lights can grow clams at 24" down (with optics). 10" would grow an SPS nearly anywhere (except for shaded areas toward the sides)
