Thanks, i really appreciate your advice.

Another question, i've a cube of 17". Should i'll request 60° lens or i can go with the default 90°?

Thanks

Marco

If you ever want to upgrade, keep 90. Otherwise, 60 degrees will work for you over a 17" cube, as the unit is around 17" itself.

Can we get cree on the new model?

PAR Meter Measurements

I just got the PAR Meter, Apogee MQ-200, and I took some quick average readings of both the IT2040, and my DIY Cree. Both were very impressive, and I suspect it is due to the low K whites (and 180w to the Crees).

I also realized my lights aren't evenly over my tank, and the fixture is shifted to the right a bit. You can see how the numbers are lower on the left side. Numbers should be higher for everyone else who places lights evenly, and I can't remove the bracket from the wall now.

Tank is a 34 Gallon RSM 130D, 24x20x24 I believe. Definitely 24" long and 24" height. Both lights are at 100%.

IT2040 ~7" above the water (Yes, the middle of the tank hits 800 PAR nearly mid way down) I have no idea which leds are making it so high, but it is accurate.

The numbers are excellent:

The 180W DIY Cree/Luxeon at ~9" above the water is friggin insane however. Surprisingly it doesn't sizzle coral. The middle of the tank is 1000+ PAR!

First let me say that this has been an awesome thread...lots of great information!!

As for my question, it seems Reef Breeders is coming out with a verison of their value light with a controller now. What do you think??

"We have a new light on the way, with a built-in controller and heatsink!! The controller has an LCD touch interface, and allows for 24 data points, the whites/colors, royal blues, and moonlights are all separately programmable. The fixtures are linkable, and come with fully adjustable, and tiltable hanging wires. The exact color combo is as follows: channel 1; 16 7500k cool whites, 2 480nm blues, 2 520nm greens, 2 630nm red, 2 660nm reds, and 4 410-420nm violets. Channel 2; 24 450nm royal blue, Channel 3; 3 480nm blue moonlights. The fixture comes with 90 degree optics, and is set at $299 shipped. We are now taking pre-orders, and will ship them out in 2-3 weeks! It looks like the 120watt bridgelux value fixture, with a controller on the front, and a better hanging kit."

Not my photo...i do not take any credit for it.

Reefbreeders is an Evergrow reseller now. That is actually the new Evergrow light I reviewed. The cool thing about reefbreeders is, they use their own nice custom ratio which is good if you don't want to figure out your own layout, and they will service your lights in the US if needed. Evergrow will service the lights for you too through a US reseller, but if you are weary of ordering direct from the factory in China, Reefbreeders is a nice option.

There are perks from ordering from Evergrow direct too, such as quantity discounts on some lights, being able to choose your own led layout, etc. Choice is up to you, but it is the same light in the end.

I guess it makes sense since i liked the evergrow one too LOL. Thanks for the quick response!! I think i am going to go this route...i dig their ratio too.

Thanks again for the help!!

Can we get cree on the new model?

There will be a Cree version of the new model, but it won't be anything like my DIY light. Their Cree version will probably use the older Cree XPG/XPE series at 40x 3W each. You also can't get Violet in Crees yet.

My light uses 36 Cree XT-E, 6 Luxeon ES, and 6 Semileds 420nm with the Crees running around 5 watts each. No fixture on the market even comes close to it.

My DIY is actually the Nova A4 light they sell, but completely converted internally. I made a thread in the DIY section of it being built.

Bhazard, what would be the color temp of theirs ratio?

Thanks

Marco

16 7500k cool whites,
2 480nm blues,
2 520nm greens,
2 630nm red, 2 660nm reds,
and 4 410-420nm violets
24 450nm royal blue
3 480nm blue moonlights

Their ratio looks bluer than mine, but the reds provide a lot of color pop in it. Its more of a 16k-18k look.

If you add 2-3 reds to mine, you can probably achieve the same color pop.

I notice two types of reds and the moonlight at 480 instead of 450.

My actual tank as a 20k German MH without blue T5, so i try to have these look in the new fixture, But i like also the your red and green findings (i have a lot of green corals and a big red mushroom).
So i'm a bit confused :)

Try this one. I was posting from my phone. I am trying to get a 16K to 18K look. What do you think?

Thank you for looking

Bhazard,

Tried taking all your advice and putting it into a D120 layout. I'm planning on putting two of these on a 72 gal. bowfront with 90 degree optics. Let me know if you see room for improvement.

Thanks again

Bhazard, in your opinion, which one is better? D120 Cree, the new one Cree, or a6 with Cree if it's available? I'm getting them for my 180g and 375g. I'm all about par.

Thanks

That actually looks really nice. I like it, and I'd like to see tank shots if you use it. The only issue I see, is that each led alternates to a different channel. You might not have a separate blue or white channel that way, unless they have a pcb board that can do it.
